An ancient race lurks in the darkness, steering humanity for centuries in a direction which suits their desires. All the while, the Earth’s population remain largely oblivious to their existence.
When an archaeological discovery is made, these creatures are forced to respond, setting off a bloody chain of events which could result in their downfall.
Journalist Amy finds herself embroiled in a career-changing story but soon discovers that reality is far different to what she had previously believed. With Lily, her terminally ill daughter, to care for, Amy is forced to make horrific decisions as she faces monsters that should be confined to nightmares. What would Amy sacrifice to save her child? Can a path of darkness ever bring light to the world? Will humanity survive the impending storm of brutality?
Lead Me to the Dark is the gritty, blood-spattered debut novel from James Twyman.

The possibility of a secret cabal pulling the strings of humanity is a deep-seated fear of mine. I’m a conspiracy nut, never doubting there are people who’ll do the most awful things to further their own agenda. From the excavation in Ur of an ancient, long in the tooth corpse to its tech-savvy contemporaries, Lead Me to the Dark tells a vampire history that has little to do with good, old Vlad. We think we know our path and, according to James Twyman, another has been developing in the shadows, herding us cattle as would an expert drover. Sort of like the Illuminati. If they need to ramp up the food supply without causing a panic, the vamps just start another war to account for the missing. Thank God this is fiction.
Rick Worthy’s narration is smooth and buttery but background noises like phones ringing and sirens blaring annoyed me. Almost without exception, Mr. Twyman’s command of the English language comes effortlessly, being British. Early in the story he reminds us vampires get their jollies when feeding. The skill he used to illustrate just how much of a pleasure it is renders the scene damned near pornographic without using foul words.
