Publisher's summary

beautiful story, unfortunate performance

I wa very excited to find this story I enjoyed so much as a teenager in its original language. I was very disappointed by the narration though. Nadine Eckert-Boulet has a beautiful diction, but her robotic, sing-song tone ruins the effect of the delicious prose of Gautier. Her narration is also full of "liaisons" between words that are irritating distractions at best and plain wrong at worst.
All in all, a soulless performance. After the initial turnoff though, I was able to focus on the story, pulling out my old paperback copy of the book at times and recaptured the feeling of wonder I had felt when first reading Gautier's recount of Tahoser's story woven into a profound passage of the Old Testament.
