Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft. Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as General Zirkander.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

After 10 years at war, Jev Dharrow looks forward to hanging up his sword, relaxing with a cool mug of ale, and forgetting that the love of his life married another man while he was gone. But when his ship sails into port, a beautiful woman wearing the garb of an inquisitor from one of the religious orders waits to arrest him. He’s accused of stealing an ancient artifact with the power to start another war. Jev would gladly hand over the artifact to stop more suffering, but he has no idea where it is or even what it looks like. The inquisitor woman definitely has the wrong person.

I’m Val Thorvald, and I’m an assassin. When magical bad guys hurt people, I take care of them. Permanently. This doesn’t make me popular with the rest of the magical community — as you can tell from the numerous break-ins and assassination attempts I’ve endured over the years. But thanks to my half-elven blood, a powerful sword named Chopper, and a telepathic tiger with an attitude, I’ve always been able to handle my problems with aplomb. Maybe some cursing and swearing, too, but definitely aplomb.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
The exciting conclusion to the Star Kingdom series.
Even though Professor Casmir Dabrowski has been fighting for months to help the kingdom and humanity as a whole, few people in positions of power have appreciated his unorthodox methods. Now, he's a captive of the king and being taken back to his home world without his friends or the crushers he relies upon to protect him. The king believes Casmir is responsible for the prince’s death and plans to have him publicly executed.
But bigger troubles are brewing for the Star Kingdom, and Casmir may once again be needed to find a creative solution to save his people and reshape the entire future of the Twelve Systems. But first, he’s got to escape and survive; no easy feat for a man stripped of his allies and marked as a rebel and a traitor.
Includes "The Main Event", a bonus story from the Star Kingdom series.

This is Awesome Storytelling
I can't say enough about the magic of this series! Everything is perfect. The story pulls you in and the writing makes you feel like you are hanging out with old friends. The dialogue - just perfect. I've listened to some of Lindsay's other stuff... And it's good, but just - this series is special. Just... Damn!!! I'll listen to these books again and again. Top shelf. I'm gifting the first book of this series to friends and telling everyone I know about it. How has this not sold 10K+ copies here on audible? How? I had never listened to Fred Berman before this series, and without a doubt, he is part of why this is sooooooo good - Sanderson w/ Kramer & Reading - Sullivan w/ TG Reynolds, Will Wight w/ Travis Baldree, Abercrombie w/ S Pacey - and now Buroker w/ Berman. When the writer finds the narrator - and both are this good - just... damn lucky to have found this series! I hope she continues to build this world.

perfect ending.. next series with the main event!!
I often compared this series and character to miles V. and that wonderful series from a teen with angst through to be a husband and father but still the savior of the universe.. dispite the many physical issues.. This series was not that epic.. but because it was set in a shorter time frame, and concentrated on a small group of heros ( most of the time reluctant hero's) but I am so happy with this ending.. and hoping that a new series with the main event could begin. I'd also like to see that ring built.. and Zee become the great and glorious leader that he knows he is.

Nice finish to a series with a big heart
This is a fine ending to a delightful story. If you have made it this far, you just have to listen to the last book. Everything is sewn up very nicely, and there's even a bonus at the end with the back story of a certain "sort of" villain.
This is not heavy stuff, so it is a perfect break from something like Sanderson while you are waiting for more brain cells to regenerate. At the same time, the characters are likable and well made, so it's not "just" a break from heavier stuff, either. It has a proper place and is worthy of the time and credits spent.

An enjoyable story with plenty of wet humor .
Layers of force, and star lord omnibus 2, were quite enjoyable and it’s characterizations and reading of the stories. Quite often I found myself chuckling or laughing right at some of the situation and statements made by the characters. Humor and fused into science fiction is wonderful.

Sooo good!
Great series all the way through! None of the books felt like filler, and everyone's storylines were wrapped up nicely in the end, without feeling rushed. I flippin' love affable, clever, noble Casmir and his hilarious crushers. I really hope the author decides to continue the series, because I want at leeeeast three more books!
Also, Fred Berman is amazing. I couldn't imagine this series with any other narrator. He performed Casmir perfectly, Rache was deliciously menacing, and even his female voices were spot-on.

Thoroughly enjoyable series!
I have just finished the 8th and last book of the Star Kingdom series and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Also the first books listened to on Audible. I find that all of Lindsay Buroker's books are very easy to read (or hear, thanks to Fred Berman) and I'm looking forward to finding more! My only disappointment is that Casmir and friend's adventures are over.
