Publisher's summary

From the author of The Campaign and No Rules of Engagement...

Pamela Wright will never forgive her sister for dying in the Afghanistan war or the army for Laura's death or anyone else for making it okay for Laura to go halfway around the world to fight for reasons Pam has never fathomed. Numb with grief, she buries her sister but not her rage. Among the mourners is Trish Tomlinson, who loved Laura long ago and has found the news of Laura's death sharply painful. She remembers Pam as an unwelcome third wheel but now finds comfort in the company of the young medical resident and in the details of Laura's journal that Pam shares.

Brought together by grief, something more grows. Guilt and anger cloud their feelings and jeopardize any chance at a future. How can love blossom in the shadow of death?

Very emotional story

This book is very well written and was able to evoke many different emotions while I listened to it. The narration was excellent! I've never read a book by this author before but I look forward to reading or listening to more!

The last salute byTracy Richardson

I love this story, it was well written I felt every emotion good, bad excitement pain. Also learned about the Military and that War is never one sided. But in the end Love is all that matter, this is a must listen or reading and I am glad I did both.

Sister, Sister

As with Melissa Brayden's How Sweet it is an older sister dies and her partner soon hooks up with the little sister of her woman; one who still carries the remnants of a childhood crush.
In this case Dr. Laura Wright is killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Her younger sister Dr. Pam Wright returns to their hometown of Ann Arbor, Mi. for the memorial service and there she's reunited with her sister's first love Trish Tomlinson and away we go again.
Pamela's crush which has basically been kept alive by her childhood memories for twenty years is resuscitated but so is Trish's attitude towards Pam as her girlfriend's little sister, will Trish's attitude ever change and if so will it work out for them?
By consensus this one ended up getting a 5 star rating from the cadre; though if possible I would have rated it at 4.2 to 4.4. There were a few jarring turns and inconsistencies in the narrative that left me scratching my head. The story itself was quite stirring emotionally and the Afghanistan scenes feel real. The manner in which the protagonists came together felt forced and unrealistic however the conclusion was excellent.
Still I can only wish that those plot twists that elongated the story needlessly had been avoided and the narrative would have been allowed to proceed without all the excess drama.

What a sweet sweet story with an appropriate amount of action, angst, and love <3

After serving 13 years and two tours in war zones (to pay for medical school), Laura Wright died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. I loved the peek into the military world from civilian and soldier point of view. And such lovely side characters throughout.

Pamela Wright (31): Laura’s younger sister and the only family she had after their father died learning to fly a small plane during their childhood and their mother died of cancer six years ago. As a trauma physician in a Chicago ER she’s used to death, but not being on this side of it.

Trish Tomlinson (38): High school english teacher at their alma mater and Laura’s ex high school sweetheart back in the 90s. Who young Pam has always had a crush on.

Both women, left to mourn alone, find each other after years with their shared memories of Laura and what they discovery about not only her but themselves. They learn to grieve, heal, and grow a friendship that blossoms into more. (With a couple of well done spicy scenes)

Beautiful writing and wonderful narration <3

(Interesting how their last name is Wright like the aviation pioneers, the wright brothers, but this family has no luck with planes/helicopters)

Well written. Romantic, suspense....

Okay this book made me cry. I love the message at the end. Sexy, romantic book with a little danger and vulnerability to top it off. This book hit my emotions from A to Z.

If it weren’t for Laura’s untimely Death, Pam & Trisha would’ve gotten together. Thanks for giving us readers the Glowing Light of a Second Chance to get it RIGHT! O well off to the next adventure.
