A most excellent story!

A really good story about love and friendship. All the elements you expect in a good story, villains and heroes, almost impossible Quest. it's all there.

Didn't get the Litrpg feel at all

I got an hour and a half into the book and it's not what I'm looking for when I think about a litrpg. I'm sure it will work for most people but the lack of details in a litrpg kills it for me.

Old gamers rejoice!

Imagination is the crux of a gamers life. Last horizon tells the story of old friends in the autumn of life getting a chance to experience full immersion before leaving this world. Great mini campaign followed by a solid unhurried ending of the tale. There is a short bit where youngsters attempt to spoil the party only to make their own experience an expensive way of collecting jeers.

Might not be the book for you.

I checked this book out as part of a recommendation from online based on the Genre of books I’ve read. It’s charming but after about an hour or two I just wasn’t into it. It starts off a bit slow talking allot about their real life and very clearly states they are elderly reminding you of this bit of info in every other section of audio. This next part only really covers maybe the first few chapters and in little detail as possible to not spoil but SPOILERS FOR THE BEGINNING: it then continues on with the main character (an elder male) making most the decisions for his adventure with his wife and old friend. He apparently spends 15k without talking to them first for this game(this also means all future vacations with his wife were canceled without him asking her about it but he felt this was more important... alright maybe he knows what his wife likes, I get that), there are dad jokes all over this but it does have a charm... I disagree with how certain things are approached. A female PC put dancing in her name and apparently made her bust a bit to big and was groped by another player lead to a whole paragraph of one of the side characters (after defeating the groper) telling her and other females that they need to think about this game like it’s real life, “consider the fact that armorers and clothiers won’t be able to make clothes in that characters size due to the bust unless it’s custom made” (when it’s heavily implied armor is likely going to be made by other players most of the time) and that if they put dancing in their name or make themselves look that way they have to expect people may attempt to do bad things to them. Keep in mind he said this after saying think of it like real life, and then all the females logged out implying they likely took his advice to delete and remake all their characters. In what world should a gamer not treat a game like it’s a game and do what they want to have fun, also in what world would real life people just grope people because their dancing with a big bust... after that part and then a 10-30 second conversation where they make bear puns back and fourth because of a bear quest repeatedly and it becomes a bit unBEARable... I realize this book is not for everyone. Please know it is incredibly charming if you like the idea of a book where a married couple and the guys friend go on an adventure in a MMO VR at like the ages of 60 you may like this and perhaps the entire way this story is changes later on and Im stopping way too soon. That being said though I recommend listening to the sample. If you like the sample then you may like this book, I’m not saying it’s a bad book but don’t just buy it because of the genre it is in without considering the sample first 😅 that’s all.

Another excellent story!

I believe this is the last Schinhofen series I have to listen to and as usual it is excellent! This is about more mature people and there isn’t as much playing around in an adolescent way. It deals with issues that I find happening more frequently in my world. I enjoyed the ride and am looking forward to the next book!
Jonathan Yen did an excellent job with the narration and I was very happy with the book!

Old Man Wars meets Ready Player One

it was a great read, loved the characters, and the world building. Looking forward to the next one. Hope to get a good monk class character in the next one. Definitely lots of directions to take this series.
