Publisher's summary

Hear firsthand from multitudes of people whose lives were influenced, inspired, and even transformed by the compassion, generosity, and leadership of Larry H. Miller.

Larry H. Miller played by his own rules. Owner of an NBA franchise and founder of one of the country's largest automotive retail groups, Larry was a college dropout who went on to buy or build nearly 100 businesses. While his life as a successful businessman played out in public, his health challenges, as well as his quiet acts of service, were known to very few.

Behind the Drive contains 99 uplifting and untold stories from every aspect and era of Larry's life. Contributors range from NBA legends to religious officials, business moguls to political leaders, employees to childhood friends, and colleagues to competitors.

These stories of an ordinary-yet-extraordinary man will inspire listeners to find and live their own greatness by following Larry's example of working hard at something he loved, applying his God-given talents in service to others, and allowing his life to be guided by something greater than himself. This book is a guide for anyone who wishes to find success in today's busy world.

The stories in Behind the Drive have the power to lift and inspire the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as help everyone discover Larry's formula for success: do work you love, get better at it every day, and serve others.

Very inspirational story about an ordinary man.

I learned about an ordinary man who accomplished extraordinary things in his journey. This man's story reinforced my values and beliefs which enriched my views of success. I really enjoyed all the personal stories from people whom he had personal and business and social contact with. What an amazing man!

Well worth it!

I found these stories to be inspiring and uplifting. I have loved to have learned about the role God has played in Larry's life. These personal stories have caused me to look at Utah and all of Larry's endeavors in a new light. It is cool to have learned the background to the Utah Jazz basketball team, Larry's auto dealerships, his race track, and his movie theaters. I definitely recommend this book.

It was better to burn out rather than rust away.

Every short story in this book was exciting and captivating. From a parts counter clerk to entrepreneurship of a Billionaire in half a lifetime. The amazing legacy he leaves behind leaves a high mark for others aim at and exceed.

The most important part of this book isn't however in what he achieved, but what he gave, not only in millions to worthy causes, but his hands on participation in donating his personal time to lift others lives to aim beyond their imagination. Keep in mind, Larry H. Miller's time was worth thousands of dollars per hour and he often gave it as freely as a local food bank might give out food.

An important part missing in the book, however. The stories of when he failed and the wisdom he gained from failing. The book did cover one small lesson that did cost him $19 million, but did omit the wisdom he gained from this and other challenges. At 400 pages, it is captivating to imagine how one man could accomplish so much in so little time. It would have been difficult to have written a better book without increasing the size of the book to the point of making it unmarketable.

I am a better person for having read this story of Larry H. Miller's life. You can only understand the value of Larry's life when you read this book.
