Publisher's summary

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You'll be speaking and understanding in no time flat!

This course includes lessons 11-15 from the Norwegian Level 2 program, featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak Norwegian.

The Norwegian Language

Norwegian is spoken by approximately 5 million people, primarily in Norway, although there are some speakers in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Spain, Canada, and the United States. It is closely related to Swedish and Danish. In Norway, no official standard of spoken Norwegian exists, and there are hundreds of spoken dialects. Generally, the dialects are mutually intelligible. Because of the great number of dialects spoken in Norway, there are variations in pronunciation from place to place to place. In the Pimsleur program, we adhere as closely as possible to the pronunciation of the inhabitants of Oslo, the capital of Norway.

Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile)

Blending in with the locals!

I just came back from a trip to Oslo. I spoke as much Norwegian as I possibly could and I truly believe that this program made that more than possible for me. I had locals as me if I was Norwegian on many occasions and told me my accent was impeccable. I made sure to give shut credit to this method of language learning. I did have some trouble understanding the locals at times, but they reassured that if I moved to Norway with the base I have now, I would be in no time. I'm seriously considering it!
