Publisher's Summary

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to near-native fluency. German Level 3 includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction and is designed to be used after completion of phases one and two.

The beginning lessons of phase three offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You'll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You'll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and, most importantly, you'll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You'll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.

In the next 10 lessons of phase three, your skills will show ever-increasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you'll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you'll find yourself responding effortlessly and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.

In the final 10 lessons of phase three, you're nearing fluency with agile responses and a natural-sounding, near-native accent. You're able to utilize the language in subtle ways and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Self-confidence soars as you experience the language and culture no longer as a foreigner but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

Reading lessons are included at the end of unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading German and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you'll be reading German with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A reading booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Critic Reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Pimsleur is making living in Germany wonderful!

Where does Pimsleur German Level 3 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The whole Pimsleur German series (I’m up to book 4) has been incredible. I’ve gone from zero german experience to fully able to converse with others in only a year.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pimsleur German Level 3?

Yesterday when I spent an hour talking to my neighbor entirely in German

What does Pimsleur bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You learn by hearing, so you begin to speak without an accent. People tell me I sound like I’ve been in Germany for years, rather than just 3 months

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I love how it teaches you something and then has you practice it by applying it in all sorts of different ways. It keeps your mind alert and makes you speak very flexible.

Any additional comments?

I have been doing Pimsleur German for about 8 hours a week for the past year. I’m just about done with the fourth course. I just moved to Germany. Everyone is impressed with my German. I have no trouble getting people to talk with me and can hold my own in a conversation Entirely in German for a whole hour or more. It’s thrilling. No one believes I learned almost entirely through an audiobook.

I did make sure to master every single lesson. That meant going through the lesson once, then repeating it in five minute chunks over and over until they felt natural. I also did it almost five days a week for at least an hour a day. I did it while commuting 2 hours a day, so I was totally focused without other distractions. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I am already testing at the B1 level. Can’t wait to start Pimsleur German 5!
