To be fair....

To be fair to the people at Innovative Language, don't cr@p all over them due to a technical issue on Audible's part. I usually download audio books in Format 4. That version came in corrupt, and I was only able to hear, "This is Audible." The Enhanced version works perfectly.

Also this is a short, free preview of their box set, which is a rehash of the audio content from Japanesepod101. This maybe more convenient to a few of us. As far as content goes, this is great for the beginner. Maybe even better than Pimsluer's Japanese. I still believe you should use more than one program to learn a language because different programs will tackle a language from different angles. But if you're a newbie, this series is a great start. Then I would incorporate Micheal Thomas. Later on Pimsluer's. As you learn, also immerse yourself in Japanese culture and media. (websites, KeyHileTV, manga, etc) Also learn Kana, Katakana, and Hiragana.

Don't take my word for it, download all of the freebees, and try out the lessons for yourself.

Konnichiwa, hajimemashite. Tania desu. C:

What made the experience of listening to Learn Japanese with Innovative Language's Proven Language System - Level 1: Introduction to Japanese the most enjoyable?

How casual it was while being so explicit, I already knew everything they discussed in this lesson, but listening to how this audio book described it was very enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Learn Japanese with Innovative Language's Proven Language System - Level 1: Introduction to Japanese to and why?

This is my first audio book so I can't say really.

Which character – as performed by Peter Galante and Naomi Kambe – was your favorite?

There weren't any characters, but those two are pretty favorable characters themselves. ;)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wouldn't say that I was 'moved', per-say, but I really enjoyed the intentional side conversations Peter and Naomi had.

Any additional comments?

I really did like 'reading' this book, But to be honest, I had many issues when downloading this book to my iTunes, so after I had given up, it somehow worked, and I was able to listen to more than "ten seconds" of audio. The only real issue I see with the AUDIO is that the directions/instructions in the beginning are just TOO long, it almost made me not even want to listen to the audio, I think it would be better just to keep those written down that to fill up so much of the lesson's time.

In short, on my experience with other Japanese programs compared to this, it was really well done and very thought out. I think that it deserves more appreciation If you're looking for simple sentences explained in depth with real-life examples, with grammar and customs details, then I think this program would be just right for you. What hae you got to lose? It's free. :D

And by the way, the real lesson doesn't start until 11 minutes in. :/

Is japanese difficult?

some how the English being spoken by the professor is too fast and the English spoken by the Japanese is too accented. unlike the Spanish, the Japanese pronunciation is not quite clear, perhaps due to the pitch. Just my feeling.

overall, especially in the car, you WILL learn

you really will learn the useful phrases, and especially in the car where u can listen with full attention, but there was a very small issue that made me give the performance itself 4 of 5 stars. It's not a huge thing, however when breaking down complicated words, I struggled to understand the syllables so my suggestion would be to spell the syllables after saying them. "Hajimemashite ha -h-a, ji -j-i, me -m-e, etc" ....this way if I HEAR "da" but it's "za" I will hear my mistake when the speaker spells out the "-z-a". This audible is great except for two words that I have to Google to figure out to be sure I'm correct on the syllables is all.

Advertisements

Spam.. Just an add for the lessons. Waste of time. You would think a sample of actual lessons would be a good idea but these are just 5 to 45-minute advertisements for the lessons you get no actual feel of the content.

Absolutely for Beginngers

As someone who has tried more than half-a-dozen Japanese learning tools, this is a great refresher and an excellent starting point for beginners. Through its use of professional speakers, easy starting phrases, repetition, and unique formula, this audible lesson is a great start. I would highly recommend continuing.

Aside: this audiobook had issues even starting and downloading at first. It's minuscule in size, but I ran into the snag of even getting it to download. This may be my fault somehow, but it is worth noting.

First chapter is useless

The first chapter in this is absolutely useless and takes up half of the book.

Konnichiwa

Very clear, syllable by syllable, translation and even context. Slow pace and not too overwhelming.

Great introduction

I think this is a great introductory lesson to Japanese and am excited to listen to the rest of the series. It's short enough to be convenient and interesting enough to listen to multiple times. I especially like that it includes grammar and cultural tips instead of just vocabulary. I discovered a few minutes ago that the audible download does include the PDF that they talk about using as a supplement to the audio track, so I'm going to have a look.
