This audiobook will take you through the basics of Chinese with Basic Bootcamp, All About, and Pronunciation lessons.

The five Basic Bootcamp lessons each center on a practical, real-life conversation. At the beginning of the lesson, we'll introduce the background of the conversation. Then, you'll hear the conversation two times: one time at natural native speed, and one time with English translation. After the conversation, you'll learn carefully selected vocabulary and key grammar concepts. Next, you'll hear the conversation one time at natural native speed. Finally, practice what you have learned with the review track. In the review track, a native speaker will say a word or phrase from the dialogue, wait three seconds, and then give you the English translation. Say the word aloud during the pause. Halfway through the review track, the order will be reversed. The English translation will be provided first, followed by a three-second pause, and then the word or phrase from the dialogue. Repeat the words and phrases you hear in the review track aloud to practice pronunciation and reinforce what you have learned.

In the 15 All About lessons, you’ll learn all about Chinese and China. Our native teachers and language experts will explain everything you need to know to get started in Chinese, including how to understand the writing system, grammar, pronunciation, cultural background, tradition, society, and more -- all in a fun and educational format!

The five Pronunciation lessons take you step-by-step through the most basic skill in any language: how to pronounce words and sentences like a native speaker. You’ll go from basic concepts to advanced tips and will soon sound like you’ve been speaking Chinese your entire life.

Fun and easy

What did you love best about Learn Chinese - Level 1: Introduction to Chinese, Volume 1: Lessons 1-25?

This is my 5th language that I have learned and this has been a most enjoyable course. It teaches you basic expressions and provides some cultural insights. Many language courses put me to sleep with its boring dialogue and repetition but I was always looking forward to listening to this.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Learn Chinese - Level 1: Introduction to Chinese, Volume 1: Lessons 1-25?

I really enjoyed the lesson on the numbers.

Which character – as performed by Amber Scorah and Victor Ning – was your favorite?

Both are sincere and nonintimidating. But their youthfulness could be offputting. N

Any additional comments?

There are also online resources that further provide practice, which I found incredibly helpful.

These two make learning so much fun!

I absolutely loved this course. Will definitely get the others. I was motivated to listen everyday. The fun delivery makes it so much easier to understand the language and it makes it easier to think about and remember lessons from other sources of Chinese. They work so well together delivering this material.

Podcasts are free

This is not a structured Chinese learning course, it's a strung together group of pod casts that you can find for free online. There is no order to them in difficulty either it's very random.

don't waste your time and money

What disappointed you about Learn Chinese - Level 1: Introduction to Chinese, Volume 1: Lessons 1-25?

very little instruction. probably 90% of the time is filled by inane banter and offensive commentary by the "instructors", particularly Amber. in one lesson of 15+ minutes, they taught 3 conversational phrases. the rest was uninteresting and irrelevant filler

Would you ever listen to anything by Innovative Language Learning again?

no

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Amber talked way too much about stuff unrelated to the lesson

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Learn Chinese - Level 1: Introduction to Chinese, Volume 1: Lessons 1-25?

Amber

Any additional comments?

I had high hopes for this audio book. but there is very little actual instruction. weirdly, the course got weaker with each lesson. the first few lessons had good content but as the book went on it was worse and worse. they spend an entire chapter on the written characters. IN AN AUDIO BOOK!!! what a waste of time.

Not worth your time.

A mishmash of podcasts. About 99.99% in English. Very little instruction. There was one point where they kept saying how important pronunciation was and they were mispronouncing the word pronunciation over and over again! This was too expensive at free.

Entertaining Podcast, Dated (2009) Cultural Refs

More of an entertaining podcast with bite sized lessons that introduce some chinese phrases.
Not good for learning how to speak fluently, but good for just short nuggets.

The cultural references and food segments show the lack of research the hosts did and only reflect their own personal experiences from Northern China and Shanghai. They fail to realize that American/Canadian Chinese cuisine is heavily influenced by the Cantonese immigrants, so that's why is so different than Shanghai and Northern China. The pop cultural bits are quite dated since this podcast is from 2009 and China has changed massively since then.

Not researched information segments are more reminiscent of "personal travel blogs" more than "great courses" lectures.
