Comprehensive vocabulary, a great experience

I really enjoyed this audiobook! Beautiful voices, first off. It pretty much covers all the vocabulary you will need "to travel in France with confidence." You need to know the basics of French first, though, since it doesn't go through any grammar review. This is for a beginning-to-intermediate student wanting to acquire vocabulary and usage.

The reason why I gave it only 4 stars in performance is because sometimes the English translations are grammatically funky or mispronounced. But hey, it'll help you get used to understanding a French accent!

One of my favorite features of this book is its layout. First you can listen to the Fr/En recordings by Mariem Nouni to learn the material. Then you can use Frederic Bibard's recordings (the same words in French only!) as flashcards to see if you can understand the French without using English as a crutch. He even shows all the different ways you can pronounce one word. Great job, guys!

Great book to learn French

“French Phrasebook: +1400 Phrases to Travel in France with Confidence” is a great audiobook to learn French. I have never taken French, but I have always been interested. This short book definitively helped me learn words and phrases in French. I really appreciated the repetition of words and phrases since it helps with the learning process. I also enjoyed that the book contains everything you could need to establish conversations, get directions, indicate places to visit or sightseen, among many other useful words. This audible version allows you to not only learn a word but also its pronunciation and how/when to use it. I highly recommend this book.

Great Refresher

I have studied French for 6 years- 2 years in high school and 4 years in college. I found that this audible was very helpful as a refresher since I haven't spoken French or practiced it for 3 years since I started medical school. The people who were saying and translating the phrases were very clear and helpful. If you put it in the time to practice and repeat with them, it would definitely help.

Perfect way to learn french

I have taken some French lessons before but nothing as easy and thorough as this. I have gained a wealth of the French language. It makes the whole learning process easy and efficient.  It offers everything that I need to speak as much French as I want. I have learned so many vocabulary words, phrases, and proper pronouncing of the French language.

This audio book is a very good source for someone like me, looking to pick up phrases and words in French. It offers everything that you will need to have the confidence to speak French without error. It is a fantastic approach to learn and speak French for beginners or someone looking to brush up on the French language as I was.

It has complete words and phrases that are spoken clearly in French and then followed by the pronunciation in English.  It definitely adds a enormous French vocabulary to your learning. It allows you to be able to play and rewind or fast forward if needed. You can also stop and continue where you left off. It has a bookmark feature that is complementary. You can skip whole chapters if you desire as well for your convenience.

This audiobook was worth my time!

A handy guide for tourists.

This book is perfect for a handy guide while traveling in France. It has a written guide for visual learners as well as being able to hear the way each word or phrase is said. This means you will be able to properly pronounce the words. I especially liked that it included a section on food and food allergies. Those who suffer from food allergies will be able to eat safely while traveling in another country.

such a great resource to have

I used to study French by myself using various online resources for a few months but I had given up because I couldn't pronounce ANY words correctly. This audiobook has been a tremendous help in teaching me how to pronounce each word correctly and thanks to this audiobook, I am going to resume learning French! This audiobook comes with a PDF which entails both the transcript of the audiobook and the pronunciation of every word/phrase. It is a great resource for anyone learning French and for anyone who wants to learn it correctly. Highly recommended!

Fast paced yet easy to follow along

Before this book, my background with the French language was very limited. I've never had the chance to take French as a school course growing up, but have been interested in learning to be able to at least understand and use a few conversational phrases. In the past I have tried a phone app as well as a free online course but never really stuck with it and the reading material wasn't readily available once completed.

After beginning this book on audible, I found it extremely helpful that there was a PDF version you could either use to follow along or use on it's own. The PDF also had a vast amount of extra information to better assist with understanding that wasn't talked about in the audio. The pace of the audio was a bit fast paced for a beginner like me, but I feel having the PDF available was a huge help. The amount of phrases and usefulness of the phrases would definitely come in handy to those who have the need to speak the language, but it's also a great tool for a beginner to go through as well.

Great!

This French phrase book is a great find for both experts and novices. It has a very simple but effective method of repetition and moves at just the right pace so the listener can keep up without getting bored. The phrases are all basics you would need to know if you traveled to a French speaking country. So, you get every topic from asking for directions to going through customs. Overall this is a great find!

Comprehensive and to the point.

What made the experience of listening to French Phrasebook the most enjoyable?

Being an illustrator and having gone through major surgery, one might assume I don't exactly have time to keep time to keep my French language skills as proficient as i'd like it to be despite occasionally using other language learning opportunities like Duolingo and My aunt in Quebec and friend near Versailles.

This book however, provided a quick and for the most part well organized way to immerse myself once again into the language, and I was pleasantly surprised the breadth of the topics covered, certainly enough for any tourist to get by if you're planning for a visit to Montreal, Paris or any French speaking territory. The reason i'm giving the performance a lower score is that

1. The english translation can occasionally be a little awkward and
2. I don't know if this is an audible issue but if the chapters were labeled by what content was in them, it'd be easier for someone who was maybe in a rush to get right to the phrases they might need at that moment.

Overall, this book cuts right to the chase, and I think it'd be a good asset for beginners in a rush and intermediates that need a brush up.

Very helpful for French conversation!

What did you love best about French Phrasebook?

I took French in college for two years, and even with that formal education, I've struggled with listening to and talking in French. I'm generally much better at reading and writing. Having a book like this was really helpful in reacquainting myself with the French language at my own pace.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The voice speaking the French words was always very soothing and relaxed. I appreciated the pace the speaker took in giving the French word and English translation. It made it very easy to follow along and practice on my own.

What does Mariem Nouni and Frederic Bibard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Having this phrasebook as an audio book available to download for my smartphone, I can confidently go into studying French knowing I'm hearing the correct pronunciations and learning French beyond just reading it. I love being able to have a French "tutor" with me wherever I go, and the vocabulary included definitely will be helpful as a foundation to start from!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I felt very reassured and comfortable with this phrasebook. Unlike a classroom or more formal setting, where saying things out loud might make you feel uneasy if you do it wrong, I really loved the experience of independent study with this phrasebook for the time and patience it allows to really understand and learn French. I also found this more helpful than other language-learning apps I've tried because I can also be doing other works and tasks and still expose myself to French. Very user-friendly!

Any additional comments?

Overall, if you've studied French in the past and need a refresher, or you haven't studied French before and would love to get the basics down, this phrasebook on Audible is very helpful, and I highly recommend it. You can take it with you wherever you go, free of judgment, and learn at your own pace.

Cool listen

I have had some difficulty trying to grasp the French language and as a beginner I really enjoyed how the audio felt as if someone was conversing with me. I really enjoyed having a voice talking back that articulated the words that if I was reading I would of mispronounced.  The repetition was highly helpful as I had time to repeat the words and given a chance to hear it clearly. I was able to learn new words and pick up on the mistakes I had with others in terms of pronunciation.

Great for learning French

Would you consider the audio edition of French Phrasebook to be better than the print version?

Yes, through having the French Phrasebook in an audible version, it helps the reader grasp the pronunciation correctly and accurately with little room for distraction. You can gain a better understanding of nouns and verbs where if you didn’t get something, you can go over it again with a high level to grasp the concept.

What was one of the most memorable moments of French Phrasebook?

The great consistency of the reading voice. I felt through the duration of the book, the voice delivered a great performance and kept me alert and keen without becoming bored. I have never had a French Phrasebook like this before until now, and I can definitely say I will be using this Phrasebook in the future.

What does Mariem Nouni and Frederic Bibard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The high level you feel through having the detail brought to you at the reader’s comfort. Learning using this type of style keeps the brain active so it is definitely easier to learn a new language using this type of audible reading.

Any additional comments?

Great phrasebook which individuals can definitely use to learn and grow their love of the French language through this by step by step.

Very useful

Any additional comments?

It is a very useful and informative audiobook. The content and the structure of the book are perfectly designed for traveling. Even if you are a beginner, you can still pick up some useful words and phrases from listening to the audio. I really like that the audiobook repeats each word/sentence twice and that the second time the reading speed is a bit slower. It is very helpful for me to learn and correct my pronunciation from the repetition.

Amazing Phrasebook

I like the structure of the book. It's really well built because of that it's easy to learn.
I personally love the bonus section, particularly the "A Guide to French Food Habits ....". :)
I can strongly recommend it for everyone who plan to go to France for holiday or a short trip.

Compact, To the point, easy to memorize.

This book is an awesome help to learn or brush up your French. I studied French in University and needed to fix it to a conversational level before my journey to France & North Africa, this summer. Needed a compact & concise tool to do so.. and this one came recommended.

The voices in the audio go easy dealing with challenging accents and pronunciations and it is so intuitively done that you would wonder if it's your own personalized edition of the book. Backed by a crisp audio quality, it helped me to traverse the intricacies and nuances of the language while keeping discovering the beauty of it and the fundamentals of French grammar. The topics are neatly divided in sections and the list of phrases seemed pretty comprehensive. In the process of learning, I was introduced to new conversational challenges, new words & phrases to structure my sentence, learnt to give contextual replies that are short and to-the-point. As I repeated the exercise, I understood that I already learnt it well. The process of teaching helped me to grasp it all so effortlessly.

The best part of this audiobook is that it goes a step ahead of just helping to develop the conversational skill. It helps grow the love for French within you.

With a PDF version of the audiobook to download, this comes as a complete package. If you forget a word, just kindle your PDF and Bingo.

I rate it a 5-star.

Very comprehensive conversational French audiobook

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a very comprehensive conversational French audio book. Words and phrases are said in French in conversational speech immediately followed by an English translation and then in French again in slower speed. The slower repetition acts as a reminder or as clarification if you didn't understand it first time. It covers a wide variety of scenarios from food menus to train stations, music concerts and even banking! The food and beverage menus are incredibly detailed and easy to understand. I only ever taken a beginners course but feel that with this audiobook and a little practice I would be confident to travel to France on my own!

What was one of the most memorable moments of French Phrasebook?

Being able to identify the meaning of some words before the English translation half way through the book!

What does Mariem Nouni and Frederic Bibard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It was interesting to hear the different pronunciations of each of them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It did surprise me to learn that French and Portuguese, my native language, have quite a few words in common!

Any additional comments?

It is like having a personal tutor with you all the time!

Fantastic learning tool!

I thought this was a fantastic audiobook! My French pronunciation has never been fantastic but since listening to this I feel so much more comfortable with the language and feel like it flows naturally! I appreciate the similarities to the Pimsleur method, but I think this works even better! Amazing product!

It was alot of fun

If you could sum up French Phrasebook in three words, what would they be?

Enjoyable, Resourceful and Easy

What was one of the most memorable moments of French Phrasebook?

The list of Do's and Don't in France would definitely have to be the most memorable because I learned so much about the culture and a little about its people.

Which character – as performed by Mariem Nouni and Frederic Bibard – was your favourite?

Both were clear in speaking French and Language. Very easy to understand.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When in France!

Any additional comments?

I'd been wanting to improve my basic knowledge of the French language and culture for a while now, and this book delivered on both. This truly was an enjoyable learning experience. Not only have I learned new words and phrases but I've also learned about the Do's and Don'ts of when in France. This is such a resourceful and effective book not only for those visiting France but it would work great as in introduction to the French language and culture.

Je parle un français!

I have always wanted to travel to France, however, there is always the communication issue. No matter how beautiful French sounds, I cannot really convince myself that I will be able to learn it. This problem was totally addressed by this book. It may have been intended as a guide for tourists but it gives so much more to the reader. The contents were perfectly presented to help the reader not only be familiar with the language but also learn it. It surprised me that I was actually understanding and speaking French as early as the first chapters. Learning French has never been so easy and quick and it was definitely not boring. I guess I would be booking my tickets to France soon!

Great tool to learn French

This audiobook is a great tool to learn French. Unlike some other French speaking programs I've used, the pronunciation was slow and clear which made it easy to copy. I also love that each word/phrase is spoken in French, English, then French again. This gives you a chance to recognise a French word rather than being prompted by the English version first. I personally think this helps you become more confident with the language. The second half of the book is all of the chapters repeated in French only, again giving you a chance to immerse you in the language and see how much you could understand in France where no one is speaking the English word first!

The only downfall for this book would be that there are so many chapters, which only come up as chapters 1,2,3... if you were using this phrase book while overseas it would take you a long time to know where to look for the word/phrase you need. I would suggest making your own list of the chapter names.
