Publisher's summary

No one knows the mountains of North Carolina like Raine Stockton and her search and rescue dog, Cisco. When they are called in to search for an elderly man who has wandered away from home, it seems like a routine mission until Raine looks through her binoculars and sees something she wasn't supposed to see. A dead man is very much alive, a felon is walking around free, and Raine is the only person who can testify to the fact. The problem is that no one takes her claims seriously...except the person who wants her dead.

Unwillingly thrust into the midst of an unpleasant child custody battle and a hotly contested political race, Raine finds herself questioning her own judgment and is uncertain who to trust. Is she suffering from PTSD, or has a nightmare from her past materialized to haunt her? The police tell her one thing, her common sense tells her another. But when murder strikes too close to home, the hypothetical question becomes all too real, and no one is above suspicion: not the man Raine loves, not the man she once married, not even Raine herself. And they all must choose how far they're willing to go to protect the ones they love.

In this thrilling conclusion to the trilogy that includes Home of the Brave, Dog Days, and Land of the Free, Raine and Cisco face their biggest challenge yet, and when it is over nothing will ever be the same.

have enjoyed the entire series

From book one, I have been hooked. I have fallen in love with the main character and her dog. I have even been brought to tears. I drive a lot and listening to the books has been an amazing way to spend the miles!

Land of the free

Great book! Wonderful finish to the three book tie in. Good closure to the three. As always, Donna Postel was great. She is my favorite reader for Donna Ball's, Raine Stockton series. I never miss a book. Even read the series over waiting for the next. Hope we get another soon. Can't wait to hear Raine's answer to Miles proposal. Wonder how it will change the dynamic of the books.

Please don't let this be the last

I thought I read that this would be the last story of Raine & Cisco & all the other wonderful people in her life so I took my time before I listened and now that the audio just ended, I don't want the story to end. I'm sad if that's the case cause the Raine Stockton stories really tug at you & you don't want it to end.

Adventure, Dogs and Intrigue.

Excellent building of story and pulling preceding novels in too. Fun character building and real life decisions with which the characters have to deal. Very fun, Cisco is amazing as always. Donna Ball does another fabulous Raine Stockton Dog Mystery!

having a very hard time finishing

I've listened to all of the Raine Stockton books up to this point, really enjoyed most. This one is at this point almost so annoying I am having second and third thoughts about finishing it. The way the author is writing Raine I can hardly stomach. she's a dog trainer although honestly not a very good one, she thinks because her father was a judge and her uncle the town sheriff it automatically makes her a novice Sherlock Holmes.
then she's all surprised when her poking into stuff she's got no business poking into, gets her into dire consequences! then she has a very rich boyfriend that when all he's doing is trying to protect her, she gets all bent out puff shape thinking he's trying to buy her!! if she is uncomfortable with his money, then she's got no freaking business being with him! Urg. I guess I'm just not appreciating the way this author is writing this supposed dog trainer.

Same story different name

Basically a repeat of all the others... I kept waiting for this “heroine” to grow up... but sadly it never happened. I’ll be glad to never have to think “Is she really this stupid,” every few minutes. Or... “Buck really is a good guy,”..... he’s a cheating, lying SOB....

There was so much potential in this series, I’m just super sad that it never reached that potential.
