Lamar Reviews - "Nope" (Airdate 7/29/2022) NOPE   My son Clay saw this the day before I did. I called him and said “don’t tell me anything about it, I want to walk in knowing nothing, but tell me if you liked it. He replied, “I can’t say anything about it whatsoever, call me after you watch it.” I found that very intriguing so I walked in with no pre-conceived notions and walked out wondering what is the blue blazes did I just watch? Was it scary? Nope. Was it interesting? Nope. Did I enjoy it. You guessed it, Nope.   If you want to see it, be forewarned that I am about to say some things that could spoil it for you, but in my opinion, Jordan Peele has already done that, by making it. Jordan Peele’s biggest problem is his first movie, Get Out. It was fantastic, one of the best horror movies I’ve ever seen. I will go as far as to say it was flawless. The problem with making a flawless first movie is, meeting everyone’s expectations with your next movies. Just ask M. Knight Shamalan. If his intention in making this movie was to lower the bar of every body’s expectations, he’s done a great job. The bar is not on the floor, it’s in the ditch.   The movie opens with a set of a TV show with a bunch of dead people and a bloody monkey walking around. Then it immediately switches to a California ranch and a man on a horse. That man is Otis Haywood Sr. and he is played by Keith David. He runs a business that provides horses for Hollywood movies and such. His son OJ, played by Daniel Kaluuya works with him. Daniel also starred in Get Out. Due to a bizarre, unexplained occurrence Otis is killed and OJ’s sister Emerald, played by Keke Palmer, comes for a visit. We are then introduced to Ricky, played by Steven Yeun, who was a child star on the TV show with the dead people and bloody monkey, and is now running western theme park. At this point I’m still waiting for the plot to kick in, and the movie to start. Turns out the movie has already started, without a plot. OJ has spotted a cloud that never moves, and it is hiding an alien craft of some sort, and it comes out to try to catch horses. Emerald decides if they get a bunch of security cameras they can catch the image of the alien and become rich by going on Oprah. This brings in Brandon, a tech guy at Fry’s Electronics, played by Angel Torres, to set up cameras to catch the alien sighting.   This may be the worst alien monster I’ve seen in a movie in 15 years. It looks like a cross between a bad pancake that is too thick in the middle and a cloth jellyfish on a string, and when it eats you, it looks like you are swimming through a bunch of sleeping bags zipped together. Oh yeah, if you don’t make eye contact it won’t eat you.   Maybe the most confusing 2 hours and 10 minutes of my life, Rated R for language, some violence and bloody images.   Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie 82%. They did not see the same movie I saw. I talked to about a dozen people when the lights came up, and not one person said they liked it or understood it.   The good news is, you don’t have to worry about missing something when you go pee. You can go anytime, and honestly, if you go, you might not want to come back.   My Score: 1 Bud. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
