Publisher's Summary
Scotland, 1344.
She believes men are not honorable nor are they kind-until she meets one that changes her heart forever.
Betrayed by lies told before her birth, Aishlinn is raised by a harsh and cruel stepfather. Her life is forever changed one horrifying night when she is forced to flee England for the safety of the Scottish Highlands. Rescued by a fierce band of highland warriors, Aishlinn soon learns that honorable men do exist. She finds a strength she never knew she possessed and it will be tested to the limits when she is forced to make a heart-wrenching decision…allow the English to kill those she loves, or surrender for the crime she committed.
She is everything he never knew he wanted in a woman…
As a fierce highland warrior, Duncan McEwan has survived numerous battles, bed countless women, and survived a horrific storm at sea. He has scaled mountains and even survived hand-to-claw battle with a cat-o'mountain. But none of that could have prepared him for how his life forever changed one fateful spring day when he rescued a lass from a freezing stream. He will do anything to keep her as his own and will risk everything to keep her out of the hands of the English.

I'll be honest, I do not normally listen to Historical Romance, I picked this book as parts of an Audible Romance Category Challenge. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least. It started a little slow but it picked up and the story & romance were great. The characters were strong, honest and down right good which I loved. The romance & sex was steamy too.
The narration was great. I'm not expert in Scottish accents but she sounded great to me. I enjoyed both her male & female voices with the accent.

WOw!! What a Great Beginning!!
This Book has it all. Cruelty, survival, rescue. Lost and Found. And last but not least Love.
This is a well developed story, it introduces us to the clan and tells the story of a young maidens life. Not a explicit sex story, just hints. Recommend the read/listen. Well worth the credit, now off to read book 2

12.5 hours for $2.00!!! SOLD!
Yes, it's only $2, no idea why. It wasn't a great literary classic but it kept me wanting to listen. Our leading lady has had a tough life, and I mean tough! Forced to defend herself one day against an evil man she fled on horse to Scotland hoping to find refuge before the English soldiers found her....the evil man she fended off was a Barron, and she was a simple kitchen worker, with no right to refuse the advances of a man of his station.
While running for her life she comes across brawny highlander men who take one look at her beaten form and pledge to protect her, after all if they didn't their moms would skin them alive!
The story of her past unfolds and things are kind of predictable and it is a bit repetitive that the girl thinks she is ugly, and plain because she has been psychologically tortured her whole life but I say again, 12.5 hours for $2... How can you go wrong????

.Highland Self Discovery
This highland adventure is set in 1329 Scotland. This is not a Historically detailed story but rather a light romance with some Historical elements.
This is the story of Aishlinn, who was treated cruelly (emotionally & physically) by her step-father, brothers, and an Earl. This story really focuses on Aishlinn’s self-esteem issues and shows her journey of self discovery filled with adventure and romance. The “hero” (Duncan) originally finds Aishlinn to be a frightened and abused young woman. He helps her to overcome her insecurities and demonstrates how patience, tenderness, and love can transcend abuse.
My only negative about this story is that by the end of the book there are still a few unanswered questions. Primarily details about some people and events in her past. Maybe they will be answered in the other books in the series? Hope so.
This is definitely a Cinderella style romance. This is a love story that is more romantic than sexual and, of course, they lived happily ever after!

mediocre- irritating
I could not finish the book. The story is good , but the female protagonist made me cringe.
I get it. Ashlin was brainwashed into thinking she was nothing, and you don't come back from that easily, but it's simply annoying when she repeats the same things all over again. If I were to take a shot every time she would say that she is plain, or that the ones around her are kind for calling her bonny, I'd be in a coma. The main character is weak minded, and irritating. I could explain her demeanor because of her life before Scotland, but God, she is a pathetic FML. Overall an irritating book. Dropped it at ch 22, when the characters just didn't seem real. I guess this book was meant for female teenagers that have a low self-esteem . 3/5

Dreadful!
Worst approximation of a Scottish accent I've ever heard (and I've heard many!). This narrator needs to stick to English or American accents. Or go and study Davina Porter's narration. I stuck it out for half an hour and then gave up - it was just too awful. And I never normally give up on books part way through.
So far, nothing interests me about the story either - it's obvious, and clumsily written. Even as far as chick lit or historical romance goes, this is bad.

Enthralled
I just loved this story. Loved the narrator & her individual voices & personalities she gave to each character. I just couldn't leave this story, I had to go along with it & find out what was going to happen.
Suzan you write a fabulous story, interesting & passionate & at times very sensual. You leave enough mystery for the listener/reader to use their imagination.
I will now go on to the next episode of the Clan.
