A FANTASTIC AUDIOBOOK EXPERIENCE!

I felt a whole gamut of emotions with this wonderful book and world that Kristen Ashley has created. I love that in this Colorado Mountain series, K.A. has lingered in the town of Carnal. In the previous book, "Sweet Dreams" with Lauren and Tate's story, we see that Carnal was establishing the beginnings of community and belonging among the people who were slightly oppressed by the corrupt police department. But, no one had experienced that suppression more than Ty Walker, a half Black man who was targeted and set up for a crime he didn't commit all due to his skin color & a hidden, malicious agenda. Lexie Berry enters his life unexpectedly and ends up being his greatest tonic for dealing with the loss of freedom, power and his blood thirst for vengeance.

Now, with any of K.A. books, this one provides fantastic hero/heroine chemistry with a sexy, badass Alpha-male and a fun, beautiful, classy, and just a little goofy heroine. After reading one of K.A.'s books, I always come away feeling like she has solved the gender war, as she celebrates complete masculinity in the male leads, and a lovely, strong femininity in the heroine. And, in that respect, I loved both Ty and Lexie...I mean the pair smoldered together! Their sex appeal and connection was powerful and simply perfect.

This book also made me feel completely sad with a awful sinking feeling in my stomach, at times, because of the theme of prejudice in relation to people of color. There are also some very rocky parts of the H/h relationship that seriously conjured up my tears. Yet, the moments of elation and triumph for Ty and his beautiful sunshine, Lexie, were amazing!

This book progressed and built itself up in stages both in their relationship with one another and their involvement with their friends from town. OMG, there are so many powerful moments in this book. I will always remember Ella's (Lexie's mother figure) talk with Ty about coping with generational racism and how to deal.....OMG...POWERFUL!!!!

The villains are pure evil and they get their just reward in the end. But, a murder is left unsolved and that pushes readers forward into the next book WHICH I'M DYING FOR THE AUDIOBOOK TO BE RELEASED!!! Lastly, the epilogue was emotional, and superb. Not everyone gets their HEA, but those who really work hard at it definitely reach their HEA, including Ty and Lexie.

Narrator: Emma Taylor is a gifted and talented narrator. SHe was excellent in every accent and male/female role she took on. The only small complaint I have is about Officer Pena...I thought she laid on the Mexican accent way too thick. Otherwise, Emma T. is pretty close to perfect, as a narrator, in my book.

OK, the only negative and this is a big one for me is that I HATE it when the F-word is inserted in the middle of Jesus Christ. I think it's awful, disrespectful and unnecessary. I've never heard anyone talk this way in real life and I wish K.A. could use another string of curse words for her male leads to use that is not so offensive to a wide part of the population. I know it's completely jarring and offensive to me.

But on a positive note.....CAN'T WAIT FOR CHACE AND FAYE'S STORY IN BREATHE!!!!

5 Fantastic Stars

This book is like my second favorite book EVER. My first is Sweet Dreams.
I have read and listened to this book at least 3 times each ok lets me honest probably 6 times each. I am such a sucker for a good romance.

I <3 the way Lexie describes Ty. She makes me want to fall to my knees and.... Swoon get your mind out of the gutter. lol
"Mr. Humongo" This is my favorite nick name EVER! I mean it totally fits and it cracked me up but good.
"Total Goof" He is totally right she is and it's what make them fit so well together.

I can't believe how sh-it her life was before she meets Ty. And lets face is his life wasn't the greatest either until he meet her.

And there cars! I mean SH-IT if you a car gal then you would be swooning over just there cars!

This killed me "Your nightmare,my dream" I cried yep not bawling but I had tears again not a hard thing for me, I am a bit of a sap lol but yeah this line pops in my head every so often then I have to re read or re listen.

And last this part gives me the warm fuzzies because hello Ty and Tate!
"Love you, man," "Now, do those words work so you get what you did mean to me?" "I don't have a blood brother, but you should know there's a reason I call you that."
Those lines from those men make my heart warm. So yeah I Freaking LOVE this book!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

BEST SO FAR - KEEP 'EM COMIN'

I thought this was the best of the Colorado Mountain series. I absolutely fell in love with both Ty and Lexi, both strong characters. The story had most of everything I enjoy in a good listen; drama, suspense, bad guys, really bad guys, really good guy, good and loyal friends, and somewhat explicit sex. I think KA could have done better in the sex department, describing it in more intimate, glasses steaming detail, but it was all right. I liked that most of the good guys from previous books in this series were still an important part of this one and I also liked that new characters were introduced. But, above all, the strong H/H did it for me, especially Lexi. I don't like to listen to a story where the heroine is "mamby-pamby", indecisive, co-dependent and not her own person. Lexi was none of these; she was strong, "through sass" and determined, yet nurturing.

Can't wait until the next in the series - Breathe; just hope it's as captivating as this one.

22+ hours are not enough!

It's always bittersweet when I finish listening to KA's Carnal series, it's like anything I listen next will be a let down. I particularly liked the diversity in characters in this one and hope to see more of it in future stories. There maybe be a formula to the way KA writes but I find all the stories unique and engaging. Now let's have a WOC in a lead!

So Glad This Series is on Audible!!!

I think this series keeps getting better and better. I love all of Kristen Ashley's other audiobooks, but I think this is my favorite series so far. Great character development and writing, good back stories, heartwarming romance with some thrills. It has a bit of everything. This is book 3 in this series, and although you don't need to begin with book one, I'd start with The Gamble and then listen to Sweet Dreams since some characters and places from those books referenced. Over all a great listen.

Great addition to the series :D

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story! I really loved Ty and Lexie, they're such a great pair that I was rooting for them from pretty much the beginning.

Lexie is a great female lead. I think she ties Lauren (from Sweet Dreams) for my favorite KA leading lady so far. She's sweet, sassy and a total goof...a very fun leading lady. Her humor and sweetness are even more surprising when you find out the bad that's plagued her most of her life. One of the bad things in her life was an unfortunate and unwanted relationship to a bad guy named Shift. In an interest of staying on his good side Lexie agreed to do him a favor, which she believes is picking a guy up from prison and taking him where he wants to go. This is how she meets Ty and it ends up there's a little more to the arrangement than just a ride.

Ty is a cool leading man and I thought he was great. It didn't hurt that I've heard KA said she pictured Ty looking like Dwayne Johnson so I had that picture in my mind throughout the story. :D Ty's been through a lot in his life, the most recent of which was being falsely imprisoned for 5 years. At first he's very closed up and doesn't trust easily which is understandable. He arranges for some help once he gets out of prison and through this ends up meeting Lexie. He manages to get her to agree to an arrangement where she'll stay with him and help him with his plans.

Although they start out as business, pretty soon Ty and Lexie are starting to feel things for each other. Ty has the hardest time with this because of his trust issues but it's really cool to see Lexie pull him out of his shell and Ty start to open up and live again. Unfortunately Ty suffers from a couple of bouts of relationship dumbassedness and things aren't always smooth but KA did a great job growing their relationship and dealing with both of their demons from the past. Once they got on the same page I really loved the couple that Ty and Lexie became.

There is a secondary plot line with the work that's being done trying to clear Ty's name and issues with dirty cops that don't want to truth to come out. Very cool (if a bit traumatic) end to the story and it sets up for the next book so I'll be reading that right away. :D

Great story with a great couple. I love the whole series. I"ll be rereading this in the future. I"d recommend it. 2 thumbs up! :D
