Publisher's Summary

Lady Emma Wells-Finch, the oh-so-proper headmistress of England's St. Gertrude School for Girls, comes to Texas on a mission: she has two weeks to ruin her reputation. The only thing that will save her from losing everything she holds dear is complete and utter disgrace.

World famous playboy-athlete Kenny Traveler has been blackmailed into chauffeuring Lady Emma around. Suspended from the sport he loves, he needs to prove himself completely respectable to get back into the game. And when a gorgeous man who can't afford another scandal meets a hardheaded woman who's determined to cause one, anything can happen...even love.

Critic Reviews

"Well written, funny, sexy, and altogether satisfying." (Publishers Weekly)
"[A] lively, well-written story. Phillips combines an unexpected premise with warm, appealing characters, and overlays it all with her zingy trademark humor and well-developed sense of the ridiculous." (Library Journal)

Delightful

After listening to this book, I started searching for another by the the same author. Anna Fields is one of my favorite narrators. I truly enjoyed this book.

Another great book by SEP

SEP is the best in the romantic comedy genre. I have listened to all her books and they are excellent (except for Fancy Pants). Her plot is laugh out loud funny, her characters are very likeable, and her stories are heartwarming and full of humor. This book is the story of Francesca's friend (from Fancy Pants) Lady Emma and Dallas Beaudine's protege Ken Traveler. It is hilarious!! Adding to the writing genius of SEP, you have the best female narrator in the business, Kate Fleming/Anna Fields who had tragically died in 2006 after working on Natural Born Charmer (another great SEP). What a loss to the literary world. I really miss her. Get this book and every other book by Mrs Phillips. There is no comparison to her talent.

Perfect

I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She has no equal. This is one of her best. She always starts with a hero and a heroine who are completely different. But they come together with great love, banter and good humor.

Excellent Audiobook

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is great, combine that with Anna Fields doing the narration and you will always have a winner. I love audiobooks but this is clearly one of the best. Listened to it twice!

Great Funny Read.

The first time I read it I was doubled over with tears in my eyes hysterically laughing so many times! On subsequent reads I still laughed but not as much because I knew what was coming. But it was still great.

This story is the romance between two oddly matched people: Lady Emma headmistress of a girls school in England and Kenny a professional golfer in Texas.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Anna Fields was very good with everything except Kenny’s voice (the hero). It was unpleasant and weird. Throughout the book he sounded like a belligerent sulky teenager. It was not masculine or sexy. I wish she would have used a voice like she used for Dan Calebow and Cal Bonner (in books 1 and 3).

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 372 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words but not often used. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 8. Setting: 1990's mostly Texas. Copyright: 1999. Genre: humorous contemporary romance.

Highly recomended

Engaging characters, entertaining plot, good sexy relationship, interesting mildly dis-functional family setting, excellent performance. Thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

Great Narrator -- Wonderful Humor

What did you love best about Lady Be Good?

The humor found in the characters and the narrator's way of communicating that humor was so endearing. She made the characters seem so real. The minor characters were also enjoyable and brought extra humor and romance! I laughed out loud so many times.

What about Anna Fields’s performance did you like?

Ms. Field's did an amazing job with her many accents, speaking with an English accent and then geniune Texas drawls. There is definitely a difference in a southern accent and a Texas drawl and Ms. Field's nailed it! Every character came to life; you could almost visualize each one.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth a credit. There is not an overly use of descriptive sexual encounters which gets really old after awhile (I don't mind the innuendos).
