Publisher's summary

All Carson Reno Mystery Series books are stand-alone novels. It is not necessary to listen to them in any particular order.

It’s spring 1962, and a sergeant with the Memphis Police Department is found dead only hours before his scheduled testimony before a grand jury.

Was it suicide, or was it murder? What was he going to testify about? A handwritten note left by the sergeant and addressed to the district attorney disappears. What was in the note? Was it a suicide note with information regarding his pending testimony or something else?

A woman claiming to have information related to his planned testimony comes forward and seeks protection. Carson is hired to look into the matter and provide protection to the mysterious woman, but protection from whom?

The situation gets out of hand quickly, and Carson finds himself in trouble with most everybody involved. A dark cloud hangs over the truth, as he tries to determine the "good guys" from the "bad guys" from the "bad good guys".

This old-fashioned crime story takes Carson Reno and his crew on a complicated adventure, where it seems that no one is looking for a solution. Join our cast of Characters and come along to help Carson find the clues and discover the truth, while he tries to understand why everyone has a serious lack of candor.

NOT QUITE BY THE BOOK PI ! GREAT LISTEN!

LACK OF CANDOR BY GERALD W DARNELL IS THE EIGHTEENTH IN THE CARSON RENO SERIES.
This is my first of the the Carson Reno series I have listened to and totally recommend it to anyone who wants a good old fashioned, not quite by the book P.I. series.

To me its a really good old fashioned P I series with a PI who sinks his teeth into a mystery and a case and doesnt let go even though, he's been taken off the case and two,the client gets murdered. Not much stops Reno from finishing the job.

The narrator, Tom Lennon has done an excellent job. I have listen to multiple stories with Mr.Lennon doing narration and thoroughly enjoy his reading.

I recieved this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review.

entertaining

Sometimes I question Carson's brains versus bravado !!! He pushes the envelope to the limit and then some to his possible detriment. It made me so mad to find out who and why Mr. Greene was murdered (and his paramour too).
Cover ups and corruption tangled with greed made this an interesting and intriguing page turner that I enjoyed following. I liked that even though Carson wasn't paid for his efforts, he sought justice for the dead girl and the other criminals. I am beyond happy that this was a story without Liz and her scramble eggs. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

Great Story

I can honestly say while reading this book, I never knew what to expect next! Gerald Darnell does a fantastic job at keeping his readers guessing at where the story goes, The story was a quick listen but only because I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to soak up every minute of it. Everything is perfect in this book,
Pace, timing, tone.. characters, just everything seemed to come together to form a fantastic novel. This is book #18 in the series and it is the first book that I have read/listened to, but I hope to check out a couple more of the authors books in this series. Tom Lennon is great at narrating to us. I was provided this audiobook for free in a promotion, and I am writing my voluntary and unbiased review.

Great Detail

beautiful break down of the characters and the storyline so I didn't feel lost. easy connections made with all characters and this avoided the typical attempts at straying from the storyline to be exciting. it allowed the excitement to come from the cohesiveness of the story. Great listen
