Publisher's Summary

LAPD detective Michael Gideon and his K-9 partners try to outmaneuver not one but two serial killers, while investigating the suspicious death of a woman who belonged to a cult.

When a woman in Bel Air dies of a rattlesnake bite, the case doesn’t seem to fit the usual purview of LAPD’s Special Cases Unit. But Carrie Holder was no ordinary LA woman. She was a member of the city's latest cult, the Church of the Gate, which counts Hollywood's movers and shakers among its devotees.

Investigating the cult's secrets takes Detective Michael Gideon, his German shepherd K-9 partner, Sirius, and pit bull rescue Emily across Los Angeles's canyons, neighborhoods, and movie studio lots - but all the while, an even darker threat looms closer. The All-In Killer has left a trail of victims across the Southwest, but he's no longer content to couch his threats in poker clues - the latest crime scene leaves no doubt that he's coming for Gideon, and Sirius, too. With the FBI pressuring Gideon to visit Ellis Haines, aka the Weatherman, for insights on the case, can Gideon outwit not one but two serial killers?

Looking forward to the next...

In Russell’s latest installment to the Gideon and Sirius series the book’s plot is very busy with three cases. Michael Gideon is also having problems with his love life.
This is the fifth book in this series and can be listened to as a stand alone. I would suggest listening to the series in order for continuity of character relationships.
The publisher’s summary gives more than enough information. I won’t add to this because anything I can say would just be a spoiler.
The characters are likable and believable. Gideon has a dry sense of humor which sometimes gets in his way. The crimes are plausible. This is written so well that even with everything going on the story is easily followed.
The dogs are half of the story and are great characters as well. Gideon is also a very devoted dog owner. There is a happy ending for Gideon. I am just sorry to hear that there will only be one more book in this series.
Jeff Cummings is the perfect narrator for this book.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Love these stories!!!

Although I have had many breeds of dogs in my life, German Shepherd Dogs are my favorite. When other kids watched Lassie, my favorite was Rin Rin Tin. I am only sad that the Kennel Club has made life so hard for GSDs with their insane standards. I can feel the love this author has for our canine companions. They have made my life worthwhile by their examples of loyalty and love. So glad they are portrayed in such a wonderful series.

One of my favorite authors

I love, love, love the Gideon and Sirius novels. The are wholly entertaining. Funny too. As as dog lover who’s had some pretty sharp dogs in the past I can appreciate the cunning and intellect of Gideon’s sidekick. Sad to here their will only be one more book in the series. I feel like Gideon. Lizbeth, Seth, Sirius and Emma are old friends. I will truly miss these great stories.

Dog gone smart

I think I’ve read most of Mr. Russell‘s books. Which tells you that I do enjoy a good mystery and especially if it’s got a dog Superhero. However the last couple books that I read ...either I’m getting smarter or the plots aren’t quite as intricate as I once suspected. I hate it when I’ve got it figured out and the characters are still stumbling around in the dark. Especially when the characters are set up to be darn good at what they do.

Love the series!

Another great story in the series with all the favorite characters. I really enjoy the voice of the narrator as he does a good job with tone an inflection. I've got the whole series but really sad I have to wait a whole year for the next.

Great series.

We have listened to the whole series (so far) when traveling and enjoyed them all. My husband has even asked for more books in this series and he’s not even a book lover. We highly recommend this series for your enjoyment!

Another perfect story and narration

Alan Russell has done it again. His talent in writing stories with multiple plots that all work together is like watching Michael Jordan play basketball. It is sad this is going to be the second to last book that will be apart of this series. This book continues the adventure of LAPD Michael Gideon and his fellow dog partner officer Sirius. This book has two side cases, with a cult mystery and a dog mystery, but the main obstacle is the continuation of his chest game with a locked up serial killer Ellis Haines, aka the Weatherman. Ellis has another serial killer helping his cause by aiming its kills at Detective Michael Gideon. It's coming down to detective Gideon being able to lock down murders on Ellis Haines while protecting himself against the serial killer that is working with the Weatherman to create suffering for our heros. Hopefully our hero's will dodge disaster and catch that psycho (the All-in Killer) in the process.

I'm looking forward to the next book to conclude all that which has yet to be resolved. I have a suspicion it won't be Detective Gideon saving the day at the end but a certain doggy hero who would do anything to protect the innocent, but especially the ones he loves. I guess we will see.

For this book/audiobook, LA Woman, I can't highly recommend it enough. The narration is so clear and perfect. The narrator was born to read this book in his way to us. The plot is a incredible and you'll be up all night listening or reading this masterpiece. You have to buy this book and series, it is wonderful.

Another winner!

As a mystery and dog lover, I have enjoyed each of the Gideon and Sirius books. This is one of the best, and although standing by itself, it both completes a circle, and leaves the door open for continuing in the next book. Thoroughly enjoyable!
