Book Three of the Subterranea Saga follows Horace Kobb, a dark and broken man forever changed by the ordeals he faced in the lightless World Below. Set free from the machinations of the Lord Martyr of Subterranea, Kobb has turned his back on his daughter and vowed to return to the Black Rift where he was once kept as a slave. With the ever-loyal Will at his side, Kobb must walk openly into the fiendish lair of the garuk to pry from them the secrets of an ancient magic descended from the God Times. But if the legends are true, and the Lavarinth exists, will it allow Kobb to undo the horrors of his past and protect his daughter from the Ambraic demons that hunt her, or will it set into motion a series of events that might unravel the the very threads that hold reality together?

There’s more action this time around, which fits my taste perfectly. Kobb and Will’s relationship really grows here and Will finally gets the attention he deserves. His backstory ties everything together in a way that just works.
The narrator absolutely nails it. His voice fits this story so well and adds that gritty, grounded feel that makes the world come to life. It feels like a true adventure story with heart and depth instead of nonstop explosions or cheap twists.
If you like fantasy with deep lore, great characters, and that classic “gather your party and see what’s out there” feeling, don’t skip this one. Easily the best in the series so far.
This series just keeps getting better!
