Publisher's summary

Kissing the Leper is about eyes that see. Jesus once counselled us to "buy medicine for your eyes from me so that you can see, really see" (Rev. 3:18 MSG). Kissing the Leper is about getting our eyes repaired from religious and cultural prejudice so that we can see Jesus in others, especially those that our world discards as "the least".

The author has compiled the voices and testimonies of historical and contemporary practitioners to develop a devotional theology of encounter. Specifically, Brad Jersak challenges us to meet and welcome Christ in human form from society's margins to the banqueting table of God.

Thought Provoking Book

Where does Kissing the Leper rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the first audiobook I have listened to in quite a while. I am very picky about the style of narration when I listen to an audiobook. In the past, I have put many audiobooks aside even though the story has interested me. I did not have this problem with Kissing the Leper.

Have you listened to any of Michael A. Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have listened to a book narrated by Michael A. Smith. Although the pace felt a little slow at times, the passion with which Smith read brought life and depth to the stories in each chapter that would not have been found had I simply read quietly to myself.

A must read for any sincere Jesus follower!

Brad Jersak’s love of Christ and neighbor is apparent throughout this book! If you want to see what truly following Christ looks like, through the risky actions of loving your enemies, forgiving, and caring deeply “for the least of these”, read this. I’ve read (listened to) almost all of Brad Jersak’s books now, and each one has brought me to tears at some point. Jersak is truly a gifted writer, thinker, theologian, and most of all a child of God. Highly recommended.

One of the most compelling reads, a transformative call to compassion.

I wept many times while listening. The furthest thing from legalistic theology, though incredibly sound and grounded in truth. It verified many of my own heart thoughts about how to connect with the world and compelled me to start seeing the world as true family. It made me see deeper value in my relationship to my children. This book let the deepest cries of my heart know they were not wrong or alone. I would love to meet Brad someday. The narrator did a great job too!
