Publisher's Summary

Sam Cooper has just become the most eligible bachelor in New York City. Now that he has foiled a jewelry-store robbery and has been rewarded with the ring of his choice by the owner, single women all over the city are fawning over the crime reporter. But Coop isn’t interested in the admirers sending racy underwear his way. His attention is centered solely on Lexie Davis, the only woman in the city who claims not to be interested in his bachelor status.

Instead, free-spirited Lexie is interested in Coop’s antique ring and its - potentially scandalous - history in her family. But Coop is quickly becoming more than just her route to the ring. When his investigation starts to uncover the truth, will she trust her heart - and her family secrets - to this most eligible bachelor?

This book is awful

I tried to hang in there, blaming the bad narrator and her over-annunciation of all words, but it is the entire book. I just can’t finish this. I do not understand how people can rate this book with such high reviews. There are so many great books in this genre. Yikes.

Bad voice.

The book was good, but I had a very hard time listening Pepper tell the story. She had a boring and whinny voice!! Maybe the story boring and hard to get through it.

not the best from Carly Phillips

(Sam (Cooper) & Lexie): so I have to say that this is not my favorite book from CP. I did listen to the audiobook so I'm pretty sure the narrator made the book worse. She read extremely slowly and in a monotone. I think the book would be better read by dual narrator's since it's in dual POV. Now the actual plot, I liked. The mystery of a stolen ring that Cooper is given as a reward for saving a jewelry store owner from theft. Lexie meets with him because her grandmother has the matching necklace and she wants to buy it for her. There's some chemistry between Lexie and Cooper but it's not the jump off the page, in your face. I absolutely loved the banter with the grandmother and her best friend. Some of the funniest parts of the book came from them. You'll never find a CP book that isn't thoroughly detailed in the romance department. So I found that to be great. I just felt that the tone of the book was too slow and then the narrator didn't help. If there had been more drama or danger involved, something to keep us readers on the edge of our seats, I think it could've been better. This just wasn't my jam.

Have a difficulty time finishing this

The narrator was boring, as if she was reading newspaper. No change of voice for shifting POVs.

Kind of stupid

I didn’t like the fact that the care. Grandmother stole from people and then she just get away with it even casually stealing seems to really sets a problem for the characters of the book I’m sorry she lied to her for years I didn’t like that so I thought the story was a little bit unbelievable

I can’t review the content for the narrator

I love Carly but this performance was untenable. So sorry! Hope to see better in the next series. I have listened to multiple series of hers and they are great!
