Publisher's summary

A USA Today best seller!

Roan King. The uncrowned king of Barnett University. He's like a freaking celebrity around here. It's totally ridiculous. People, by which I mean grown women, actually stalk him on the internet. And around campus. Apparently, he's God's gift to both football and the ladies (I'm using that term loosely). All he has to do is smile, and girls fall right onto their backs before spreading their legs wide. I've heard that he's already plowed his way through half the female population at Barnett.

My guess is that he'll work his way through the second half before he gets drafted to the NFL later this year. Yeah...I don't plan to be one of them. The guy is nothing more than a conceited player. You know the type - a steroid-infused meathead coasting through college on his football prowess.

Ugh.

I have three words for you - avoid, avoid, avoid.

Need I say more?

I don't think so. I've had the sad misfortune of running into him on campus. Literally. As in - I literally slammed into him before spilling my iced coffee all over that wide, rippling chest of his (did I just say that?). What I learned from the experience is that Roan King is one hell of a cocky son of a - I also learned that he has the most spectacular chest. And don't get me started on those abs.

I could probably cut diamonds on them.

Unfortunately for me, Operation Avoid Roan King isn't going so well. Everywhere I go, there he is. If he wasn't so ridiculously hot, he would be a hell of a lot easier to forget. With his dark hair, shocking turquoise-colored eyes, and (damn him) buff body, he's easily the most gorgeous guy I've ever laid eyes on.

Crap...see what I mean?

I have the sneaking suspicion that Roan King will lead to my utter ruin and downfall.

Not really a fan of this one

I really wanted to like this, but I just didn't. The characters were weak and Roan was a pig. Spoilers ahead so don't continue reading this review if you don't want to know. As soon as he said "ivy who" and proceeded to go sleep with 3 girls in the same night after he had met ivy and mentioned being interested in her and couldn't get her off his mind made me seriously dislike his character and he just couldn't come back from that for me. I get that it's probably more realistic for a guy not to just drop his player ways as soon as he meets a girl that's different, but I enjoy the books more when they at least don't sleep with anyone else after meeting 'the one'. Otherwise, it felt like he could easily forget her and she wasn't special enough to hold off sleeping around for a few days to get to know her first. It turned me off so much that I then skipped ahead skimming through the audio hoping he didn't actually go through with it, but since he did, I just couldn't get back into the story.

The FMC also wasn't my favorite. She didn't owe her ex anything and she should have told him that when he kept pestering her for information. She also should have told him to get lost instead of thinking she could maybe like him again. He cheated on you and dumped you as soon as you left the country and jumped into bed with everyone with a v. You didn't talk for 15 months. Have some self respect, what could be any kind of appealing about him? It feels like in many of these types of books, the females justify and forgive disgusting behavior by the men just because they are good looking. It's disturbing and frankly getting old reading about. On top of everything she almost gives up what she's worked for her whole life to be with a guy she just started dating. DUMB. I like female leads with a backbone and dignity and she just didn't have it.

Her dad was a creep too. Whether you share the same type of heartache and loss with someone or not, falling into bed with them the minute your wife dies of cancer is disgusting. Also, avoiding being home and not being there for your teenage daughter who lost her mom while sleeping with a colleague makes it even worse. These characters were just hard to read about for me; there just wasn't much to like. I'll give a 3 star overall because I could be being harsh just because I didn't like this particular story and how things progressed. The writing style was decent and maybe it could have been a better storyline if I had liked the characters and if a few scenarios hadn't transpired. Many reviews I read prior to reading the book sounded like many people liked the characters. So, it's probably just me. The audio was okay, but it would have been way better if the Male chapters would have been read by an actual male.

Good characters

Loved the story but hated the female narrator for the male. Where was Teddy Hamilton or Zachary Webber when you need them?

Typical Jock Nerd Romance

It was recommended on goodreads as a solid romance novel, so I thought I would check it out. It was a nice and typical jock nerd romance book. While it was not as spicy as I am use to, it uses a lot of descriptive words to express the passion between the two main characters. All and all a good, read. Most def a slow burn if you are into books that drag out the two main characters being together.

Super talented narrator

I’ve adored this smart, snarky, sexy, low angst, feel good read for many years and was SO pleased it came out in Audible. I am typically not a fan of one narrator for dual m/f POVs (unsure why authors do that to both their fans and the poor narrators that get blasted) yet Gail nailed it & my love for this story remains. Bravo!
