Publisher's summary

If the sexy construction crew were Powertools, their cousin mechanics are sure to be Hot Rods. Nothing's sexier than seven men with hot rods.

Hot Rods, Book 1

After Eli's mother died, his father honored her life's mission as a social worker by taking in several kids from the wrong side of the tracks. Not all of them stuck, but those who did became Eli's quasi family.

Their bonds, forged in fires set by their personal demons, are unbreakable - or so Eli wants to believe. Especially since he and Alanso, his best friend and head mechanic, witnessed the overpowering allure of polyamory while visiting the Powertools crew.

Much as Eli would like to deepen the relationships among his foster brothers and sister in the Hot Rods Restoration Team, he's hesitant to risk everything on a quick romp behind a stack of tires.

But when Eli catches Alanso exploring their mutual fantasy at a known hookup spot in a public park, all bets are off. And Eli must decide if it's time to jump in full throttle - and trust his instincts to guide him through the night. If the pair of mechanics can dodge the potholes in their own relationship, maybe they can race together toward the unconventional arrangement with Mustang Sally they both desire.

Warning: Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be a wild (and naughty) ride!

Short & Slightly Violent

I wish Jayne Rylon had spent more time developing the Hot Rod characters, a group of close friends who were raised together since they were teens. I couldn't get past the incestuous feeling when the men who called each other "brother" started screwing each other.

I also didn't like the violence during sex; hitting is SO not erotic. It totally creeped me out when Joe, holding his baby daughter on his lap, casually talked about hitting Sally for sexual kicks. How can he claim to love his child & wife, yet enjoy hurting women? Of course, it was just as revolting when the men hit each other.

Jayne Rylon is incredibly talented, capable of writing multifaceted characters, so I was disappointed when there was more graphic (sordid rather than sensual) sex scenes than actual plot. However, the narrator was great; his voice was deep and mesmerizing.

a great place to start

Where do I start? I haven't read the previous series, but saw this book on sale on Audible.com and gave it try. I've read other books by Ms. Rylon, not as many as I should based on this book!

Eli adn Alonzo are long time friends, but since an incident several months earlier, Eli can't get the picture of Alonzo out in his bed out of his thoughts. Thinking its a one-sided feeling, he simmers and stews until he and Alonzo have it out.

When he finds Alonzo out seeking pleasure elsewhere, it really hits home that he may lose his best friend over the fact that Eli can't admit he may be bi-sexual. After talking to his cousins, he realizes that what he really wants is the same thing Mike and his crew have. A well-rounded crew of men and Mustang Sally to love and have his back.

In the end, Eli must choose: perception of what life should be or what it will take to truly make him, and Alonzo, happy.

Hot Rods + Audio = HOT ME!!

Where does King Cobra rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A fantastic representation of each and every character, even the slutty bar fly. The narrator (Gregory Salinas) did an amazing job bringing my beloved Hot Rods to life!! I was most concerned about Sally (female voice done by a male) and Alonzo (sexy as heck latino who speaks in Spanish occasionally) but there was NO need to be worried. It was PERFECT.

Have you listened to any of Gregory Salinas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first book with Gregory.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Jayne Rylon's Hot Rods Series has the perfect blend of friendship, love, muscle cars and sex appeal!

Any additional comments?

A late starter to Hot Rods, I plowed through the whole series in 2 days. I didn't think they could get better than the first read...then I heard this audio! I can't wait for the next book, Mustang Sally to be released!!

Hotness!

This is a great first book in a new series about a group of mechanics (a spin-off from the Powertools series where the main character Eli/King Cobra is Joe's cousin). It's about the group of mechanics trying to find love and figure out how they all fit together as a group. A really good book but it does end on a cliffhanger that leads right into Mustang Sally.

Wonderful narration by Gregory Salinas

Great beginning to the Hot Rods series!

Listening to this audio version of the story really brings out the characters, even though there are several of them, the narrator is able to portray each one as separate individuals. Awesome narrator, can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

Hot Rods, Book 1

As posted on The Smutty Kitty reviewed by KittyKelly

4 out of 5 Licks

Until this point the audio books of Jayne's that I've been listening to are books that I've already read, but I hadn't gotten around to the Hot Rods series yet so I'm very excited to listen to them now. I have this thing about reading blurbs and I generally don't bother when the books are from my go to authors so I didn't know much about this book going in other than it was loosely related to the Powertools Crew. I knew from the Powertools series that the shop was looking for something similar to the crews relationship but I wasn't sure what it was going to be. This one starts us off with Eli and Alanso. Eli is fighting with everything he has and Alanso is tired of hoping for more. After some seriously hot stranger sex in the park (seriously folks it happens lol) Eli comes to his senses and admits his feelings to Alanso. They do something I really don't like, but in the end they don't enjoy it so that helped a little, and leads us to the cliffhanger. Ok cliffhanger may not be the best word for it, but it does leave us hanging a bit. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Alanso and Eli unfold. It's clear there has been sexual tension between the two for a while now, but Eli was so worried about keeping his family together that he almost tore it apart. Once Eli lets go of his fears the relationship between these two is the perfect combination of hot and sweet. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for Mustang Sally to release in audio so I can find out what happens next. My heart is hurting for her right now and I want her to find some happiness.

Jayne does it again!

Where does King Cobra rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top I love the hot rods and how the power tools help guide them into their new relationships.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eli "King Cobra" London, he knows he's messed up but he owns up to it and finds a way to fix it.

Have you listened to any of Gregory Salinas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. In this one he sounds more relaxed and natural in this one so a great performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I love the hot rod books and they grab you, and leave you drooling for more.

Any additional comments?

It is great to catch up with characters from Jayne Rylon's other series the power tools. I can't wait to read and listen to the others in the series. I have been following the Power Tools and Hot Rods from the beginning and are my favourite erotic romance series.
