Publisher's summary

In the 10th audiobook in the multimillion-selling Killing series, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard take on their most controversial subject yet: The Mob.

Killing the Mob is the 10th audiobook in Bill O'Reilly's number-one New York Times best-selling series of popular narrative histories, with sales of nearly 18 million copies worldwide, and over 320 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.

O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard trace the brutal history of 20th-century organized crime in the United States, and expertly plumb the history of this nation’s most notorious serial robbers, conmen, murderers, and especially, mob family bosses. Covering the period from the 1930s to the 1980s, O’Reilly and Dugard trace the prohibition-busting bank robbers of the Depression Era, such as John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Baby-Face Nelson. In addition, the authors highlight the creation of the Mafia Commission, the power struggles within the “Five Families”, the growth of the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover, the mob battles to control Cuba, Las Vegas, and Hollywood, as well as the personal war between the US Attorney General Bobby Kennedy and legendary Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa.

O’Reilly and Dugard turn these legendary criminals and their true-life escapades into a listen that rivals the most riveting crime novel. With Killing the Mob, their hit series is primed for its greatest success yet.

Misleading Title.

Dillinger, Floyd, Nelson were not part of the "Mafia ". More of a history of mob. Didn't get into the Law taking down the mob until the last couple of chapters. Liked the story though. Found the tie in to Hollywood interesting. Just thought it would be about law enforcement aspects.
BTW...LOVED THE REST OF THE SERIES..

even though I was bummed that Mr O'Reilly did not narrate, the narrator was amazing. he even did decent impressions. I love the format.

“KILLING THE MOB” Is O’Reilly’s best yet

I have been a student of organized crime ever since I was a young kid and read about the Castalano hit at Spark’s steakhouse. O’Reilly and his research team nailed it. From the origins of the mafia in America, their dealings, teamsters, politicians, Hollywood, and the FBI. He tells an exciting story all without glorifying or condemning them.

"Maiming the Mob" at best

I was definitely entertained by this detailed history of the mafia. Being from St. Paul, MN I was fairly annoyed that the authors placed John Dillinger's Lincoln Court Appartment shoot out with FBI agents in Minneapolis when in fact those apartments are located and that shoot out occurred in St. Paul not far from the intersection of Grand & Lexington. I also was disappointed that despite being heavy on famous prohibition and depression era gangsters (which I did enjoy and agree are relevant) the book is very light on the mafia activities of the late 70's to the present, barely summarizing the extraordinary work of Rudolf Giuliani and hardly mentioning the brutality of John Gotti. Paul Castellano was mentioned once. Although there is a lot of new information in this book, particularly regarding the Ali/Liston fights, to have "killed" a subject you really have to be detailed all the way through instead of glossing over more contemporary events. O'Reilly maimed his subject this time around, stopping short of killing.

Waste of time

Very little new material. Disappointed in it’s simplicity. Similar to how I felt reading killing Jesus

Very Good but not as I was expecting

I really liked this book, but it was not what I was expecting. This is my first time listening to the killing series. I was disappointed that the book barely skimmed over the Era of the FBI's fight against the commission and the case against them. The book could have been 5-6 hours longer at least.
