Pandy "PJ" Wallis is a renowned writer whose novels about a young woman making her way in Manhattan have spawned a series of blockbuster films. After the success of the Monica books and movies, Pandy wants to attempt something different: a historical novel based on her ancestor Lady Wallis. But Pandy's publishers and audience only want her to keep cranking out more Monica-as does her greedy husband, Jonny, who's gone deeply in debt to finance his new restaurant in Las Vegas.
When her marriage crumbles and the boathouse of her family home in Connecticut goes up in flames, Pandy suddenly realizes she has an opportunity to reinvent herself. But to do so, she will have to reconcile with her ex-best friend and former partner in crime, SondraBeth Schnowzer, who plays Monica on the big screen-and who may have her own reasons to derail Pandy's startling change of plan.
In Killing Monica, Candace Bushnell spoofs and skewers her way through pop culture, celebrity worship, fame, and the meaning of identity. With her trademark humor and style, this is Bushnell's sharpest, funniest book to date

Featured Article: Sex and the City Character Guide
Sex and the City is an essay collection by Candace Bushnell that forever changed the cultural conversation about womanhood, relationships, and, yes, sex. Bushnell created the column "Sex and the City" for The New York Observer in 1994, and framed it as a humorous take on dating in Manhattan based on her own experiences. If that sounds familiar, you’re on the right track. Yes, it was exactly like the column Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw wrote on the hit television show Sex and the City, which made its dazzling entrance on HBO in 1998 and still hasn't left the pop culture scene.

What disappointed you about Killing Monica?
The writing, character development and overall story line were just so dull and poorly written. The whole thing felt very contrived and the "twists" were overly drawn-out. The book never really picked up steam. In fact, towards the end I kept checking my progress to see how close I was to the end as I wanted it to be over but felt I had invested too much time to quit. What could Candace Bushnell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Better character development and a simpler but more thoughtfully written story. What character would you cut from Killing Monica?
Pandi - or at least less annoying towards the end. "Speak up already and quit dragging this thing out" is what I kept thinking by Chapter 17. Johnny Bellaga and PP for the same reasons - not only because the character was so typical/expected but because the narrator's interpretation was irritating.Skip this one even if you are a Bushnell fan

What would have made Killing Monica better?
I was expecting a story as engaging as Bushnell's other books but couldn't get through 2 hours of this story. .What three words best describe Therese Plummer’s performance?
She is a good narrator.Disappointing...

This is a dreadful thing. Do not put yourself through it. Not only is the story stupid, the characters badly drawn, the writing lazy, but also the reader has a really annoying manner of telling the story. If you quite like Candace Bushnell, as I do, you will be bitterly disappointed.
Truly terrible

Funny, light-hearted story involving delightfully wealthy, boozy, sort of trashy (in a good way :P ) women (and couples) living in New York City.
I liked Lipstick Jungle (by the same author) more than Killing Monica, but this is still definitely worth reading.
Can't wait for your next book, Candace!
Fun, quick read
