Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

A gripping and explosive account of Vladimir Putin's tyranny, charting his rise from spy to tsar, exposing the events that led to his invasion of Ukraine and his assault on Europe.

In Killer in the Kremlin, award-winning journalist John Sweeney takes listeners from the heart of Putin's Russia to the killing fields of Chechnya, to the embattled cities of an invaded Ukraine.

In a disturbing exposé of Putin's sinister ambition, Sweeney draws on thirty years of his own reporting—from the Moscow apartment bombings to the atrocities committed by the Russian Army in Chechnya, to the annexation of Crimea and a confrontation with Putin over the shooting down of flight MH17—to understand the true extent of Putin's long war.

Drawing on eyewitness accounts and compelling testimony from those who have suffered at Putin's hand, we see the heroism of the Russian opposition, the bravery of the Ukrainian resistance, and the brutality with which the Kremlin responds to such acts of defiance, assassinating or locking away its critics, and stopping at nothing to achieve its imperialist aims.

In the midst of one of the darkest acts of aggression in modern history—Russia's invasion of Ukraine—this book shines a light on Putin's rule and poses urgent questions about how the world must respond.

Only One Guy Told NATO To Cease LNG From Russia…Trump

Good book. But as with most leftist writers, they remain distracted by a 2016 fiction and unending obsession with President Trump. Lots of important information which I enjoyed. But it is made “less” by the two ridiculous Trump focused chapters. THIS IS PUBLISHED IN 2022 AFTER RUSSIA INVADES. Any Biden concerns? Nope. Mentions of Hunter in Ukraine & Ukrainian corruption? Nope. But TRUMP! Yea, the only guy who told Europe not to buy LNG from Nord Stream I and to shut down Nord Stream II. Europe ignored Trump…mighty cold winter ahead. If an author is
stuck in his Trump obsession, then perhaps a few facts correctly presented would lend credibility. Could have been a great book. Maybe even an
important book. But it is just one more author stuck on Trump. Yes - more than half the country supported the guy. Move on.
Thankfully, I did not buy the physical book for my study.

Waiting for the sequel!

Very well written and read. Waiting for the sequel, hopefully it will be written once this war is over, Ukraine is victorious and Putin is gone.

A must read.

This is a rollicking and illuminating book. Sweeney is an irreverent, dogged, and sometimes uncontrolled investigative journalist with vast experience around the world on the trail of murderous autocrats. He is a master at connecting the dots, though occasionally the dotted lines may be somewhat dubious. Nonetheless, it’s a compelling indictment of the murderous narcissist in control of mother Russia. After a career with the BBC, Sweeney is now determined to let the world know the Russia story under Putin, and the evidence that that this man is a sadistic psychopathic kleptocratic pleoneviat (look it up). I listened to the book on Audible, where the text is read by the author. The audio version is well suited to the conversational and informal style of the writing. If you care about where the world is going, read or listen to it.

Nothing new. Author has zero credibility

The author brings nothing new about Putin on his own The book is a thinly veiled hit piece on right of center politicians. How can anyone believe him when he continues to spew the 100% discredited Trump Russia collusion narrative. While at the same time not mentioning a word about Hillary Clinton's Uranium One deal with Russia or Obamas hot mic moment where he says "he'll have more flexibility (with Russia in his next term". In a word, How do the British say it, RUBBISH!

Horrible narration

Do not buy. Author self deluded into thinking he could do a good read. Narration is not just reading. Skill tenor and god given tone of voice play a part. He does not have it.

I want a refund.
