  • Dead in the Water: Nathan Carman, Family Fortune & the Fatal Fishing Trip
    Jul 29 2025
A real-life maritime mystery meets true crime tragedy in this jaw-dropping case that rocked the Northeast. In 2016, Nathan Carman was rescued from a life raft after a supposed boating accident that left his mother, Linda, missing at sea. But behind the headlines of survival was a far more sinister story—a wealthy family, a cold case grandfather’s murder, suspicious inheritance battles, and a twisted trail of lies. From the unsolved 2013 shooting death of Nathan’s grandfather, real estate mogul John Chakalos, to the eerie circumstances surrounding the fishing trip that ended in Linda’s disappearance, this case left investigators—and the public—wondering: Was Nathan Carman the unluckiest man alive… or a calculating killer? We’ll dive deep into the family dynamics, forensic evidence, and courtroom drama—including the insurance fraud, the Slayer Rule petition, and Nathan’s shocking death behind bars before trial. I love love love these sisters. no filter and are hilarious, if you don't enjoy them- you're an uncultured swine with zero sense of humor and you need to lay off the pipe, respectfully (:

Ok so I admit, I have a bit of Podcast A.D.D. I binge for a bit and then almost never go back to it again. Killer Queens is one of the few exceptions to that. I have been listening for over a year now and I’m pretty sure I have listened to every episode including Patreon episodes at least twice.

Anywho, Tori and Tyrella achieve exactly what they set out to do, discuss true crime in a way that feels like a casual conversation with a few friends. I personally am not a fan of shows that are overly scripted, down to the last little gasp of horror.

Despite the witty banter and southern sass these ladies bring, the content is informative and the victims are ALWAYS discussed in a respectful manner.

While this podcast is probably not for everyone, if you like true crime, anything from the 90’s, or listening to people try (and fail) pronouncing names, give this a try, you won’t be disappointed! 💕

LYLAS!

Hands down my favorite!

I adore this podcast and these girls! They are able to walk that fine line of respectfully telling the stories of crime victims while also being entertaining. The flow is more conversational which I enjoy; the vibe is that of hanging out with your friends discussing true crime. They are real, relatable, and funny as hell. 10/10 for sure!!

An absolute gem!!!!

The hostess are definitely young and playful, which is not a bad thing just not my cup of tea. It took some time to get to the point of the story and they seemed to get off track a lot.

not my cup of tea

I was recommended this podcast in a fan group for Morbid. One thing I love about Morbid and another female duo true crime podcast, Crime Junkie is that they have a healthy skepticism of police investigations. I couldn’t get through one episode of this podcast without feeling like to these girls, the police can do no wrong. It’s nothing personal, I’m sure they’ve gotten better, but acting as if police have the hardest job in solving these crimes is irritating. They’re paid 6X more than most teachers and deal with half the bullshit. Sometimes they screw up. I think skepticism of police goes hand in hand with being a true crime junkie. They don’t always do their best work. Maybe I’ll give a listen to more recent episodes to update this review in the future.

Meh…
