Publisher's summary

The electrifying debut thriller that asks the question: To save the one you love, is there any price you wouldn't pay?

His wife is sick.

He needs $200,000 to save her.

A mysterious man offers to give him the money with just one catch: He has to murder someone to get it.

Gary Foster's life is finally heading in the right direction. After years of trying, his wife, Beth, is pregnant, and he recently opened a business with his brother. But one phone call changes everything....

After collapsing suddenly, Beth has been rushed to the hospital. Tests reveal a devastating diagnosis: an inoperable brain tumor. Their only hope is an expensive experimental treatment available abroad, with a cost that's out of their reach. And Beth's time is running out....

Then a strange man approaches Gary and offers the money he needs, on one condition: that he kill someone, no questions asked. End one life to save another.

In this nail-biting debut novel of domestic suspense, one man makes a choice that forces him to confront the darkest reaches of his soul and betray those closest to him. As he's swept up in a nightmare of escalating violence, he must question his own morality - and determine just how far he's willing to go to save the woman he loves.

Critic reviews

“A promising debut with a Hitchcockian hook, Killer Choice is a terrific, cinematic read from a new writer to watch.” (William Landay, New York Times best-selling author of Defending Jacob)

"[An] outstanding domestic suspense debut... In the harrowing tale that follows, the readers are craftily put in the position of considering what extremes they would go to... Recommended for fans of fast-paced thrillers that pose moral dilemmas (Lee Child, Harlan Coben, Joseph Finder). A real nail-biter." (Booklist, starred review)

Killer Choice is a sharply-crafted debut thriller that fans of Harlan Coben will devour. Tom Hunt masterfully ratchets the suspense until your fingers can’t turn the pages fast enough.” (Grant Blackwood, New York Times best-selling author of Tom Clancy Duty and Honor)

Nature, nurture, or choice.

Definitely a thought provoking novel. What choice would each of us make faced with the same issues.

Not sure it is believable

I found at times the story just runs on, you can skip parts and it wouldn't matter you didn't miss much. After reading the other reviews I have to ask myself, could this happen. Gary doesn't know that he is chasing anyone dealing in drugs for a long time, we know this but he doesn't. Even I know no one is going to pay a person that kind of money to kill someone unless you do that stuff for a living. I just don't see Gary believing that, more so not once he finds out who he is going to have to kill. His brother following him and how that went down, yes I can believe that. I can also buy him trying to get even with the guy that hired him for what all he did to him.

I thought the story had some good twist and turns, it was interesting and for the most part kept my attention. It has a good plot and characters. I just feel and upstanding person no matter the reason would not buy that they would get paid that much for killing someone. I did enjoy the audio and did skip a few minutes through some parts. The ending leaves you hanging, oh you have good ending the bad people are taken care of but as for Gary and his wife.....well your guess is as good as mine.

I thought the narrator did a good job with the character voices, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. He really bought the story to life and at times made me believe things if I had read it I would not have bought into. There are no background noise, no repeating of words, no volume change. I thought he did a great job narrating the story.

With all that said I am still having a hard time believing that anyone who is a business man, with good standing and has done nothing wrong would believe they would get that much money for killing a cop. I do have to say for the most part it was exciting, thrilling and chilling.

Great book!

Excellent story. Had me going many different ways, then completely surprised on what actually happened. I would highly recommend!

Was okay

Started interesting with a plot that could've been absolutely great but ended up feeling way too messed up, quite unrealistic and was in the end difficult to finish. The narrator made it somewhat worth it, though. He's absolutely amazing.

Just wasn't cohesive (IMHO)

The entire story sounded "stilted" and uncomfortable to me. They didn't talk to each other like a couple madly in love. As the story progressed, you'd THINK that at least SHE would be talking about, concerned about, obsessed about the BABY, but that didn't happen. I never felt connected to any of the characters. The only truly socially redeeming thing about the book was Ray Porter.

Poorly conceived and written

This has to be the single WORST book I have ever read OR listened to. I don't have enough words or space to tell you how bad this story is. Gary the "hero" of the tale is stupid in the extreme. He somehow thinks he is going to best a hardcore drug dealer and killer. I stopped listening with an hour to go, so I really do not know if he did. I real life, he would be chum in the ocean for the sharks. I don't have the ability to suspend enough disbelief here. Listen to it if you wish, but you have been warned.

Unlikable protagonist

I had to force myself to finish this, thinking there must be something redeeming at the end. Nope. I could find nothing to like about Gary. I would give this zero stars if it would let me.
