Publisher's summary

It's been three years since Lady Elizabeth Walsingham ended her childish crush on Laird Ian Munro, the fierce Highlander who scared everyone but her. She's a grown woman now, heading to London to find a proper English gentleman. But when the wild Highland laird walks through the door, she's that breathless youth all over again.

Ian tries hard to avoid the young lass who's confounded him for years. But now that they're attending court, he must keep watch on her night and day. Danger is at every turn, and advisers to the Crown are being murdered. Ian soon realizes that the girl he's been protecting is a beautiful lady who needs his help almost as much as he needs her.

No killing by the Hero

I was afraid this story was going to be blood and guts but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a murder mystery but it is referring to several murders rather than detailing them. The is a jousting scene which ends badly but it is not too descriptive. The love story is sweet. The heroine is young and somewhat naive because she’s been overly protected by her parents but she has been in love with the hero since she was a little girl. The hero is 33 or so and a laird. He’s not naive but he is a warrior with a warrior’s mindset and he does not charm the young ladies. In fact, he usually scares them half to death so he is not confident speaking to females. Of course, they end up in Court with the King and he is out of his comfort zone. The rest is the story which is well written with interesting characters not the least of which are the Highlanders. The narration is better than usual. Miss Eyre is learning her craft.

overall good

Book 2 is still my favorite. Elizabeth was a bit too strident. It was nice to have all the men together. I recommend since it is a good continuation of the story. Curious to see was happens to Cat.

Dàn-thuras mòr; Great adventure

Loved this series! Brilliant how all the characters from previous books are evolved in the stories.

Just OK

I didn't like this book as much as the others. The plot was too obvious and the villians were to. There was no guess work or suspense.

Narrator irritating, story mediocre.

I love accents including British ones but I don't like it when the narrator sounds like they have a stick up their bum. For example, the word demanded became "d'monded". Ugh! It sounds so pretentious. Furthermore, the narrator's plummy accent was the same for the serving maid as it was for those being served.

The story itself seemed mediocre and predictable. I probably will not pursue any more of this author's writings.

Very slow highlander

I enjoy listening to Justine Eyre. I was in the mood to listen to some historical romance. Unfortunately, this "loved you for years" was soooo slow. Late in the book, Ian (33 yrs old) realized his feelings for the 18-year old Elizabeth, and her "loved you for years" feelings for him. Just like Elizabeth, I was at the point of giving up. I'm glad I didn't because it was a sensual, erotic moment. The long awaited ending somewhat made up for my credit. However, this would have been better as a sale item and not a credit.
