Publisher's summary

Something lethal has been released across America.

With their daring escape plan thwarted at the last possible moment, Hot Zone's motley band of survivors faces a worst-case scenario. Forced to take refuge near the epicenter of the bioweapons outbreak, deep inside in a city gone mad - their time is running out.

Unable to slow or adequately contain the infected population, the government has triggered Kill Box, a desperate and merciless contingency protocol.

Dr. Eugene Chang, Eric Larsen, and the survivors following them have less than 24 hours to escape the Kill Box.

Within 24 hours, complete strangers from different walks of life will be forced to join together to survive the living nightmare that has been unleashed on their city - and their country.

This is their story.

Second Book as good as the first

You can see my review for book 1, as all of it still applies to this book.

On one hand, it's a zombie apocalypse book without the zombies and on the other hand, it's bordering on anti-government conspiracies. The story doesn't go too far into either, which works.

The plot is very similar to a ZA plot, but without the zombies, it doesn't feel the same. If you're looking for that type of story, this may not be the book for you, but that doesn't mean this is a bad book. If you like post-apocalyptic action, this is a decent book.

Thriller that doesn’t end

I really appreciate the author’s ability to keep my attention, now thru the second book, whilst leaving a cliff hanger that has me looking forward to the next in series soon

The audiobook is ideal for
My current lifestyle - easier to listen to while I’m working out or doing chores then trying to read the book itself

Fantastic!

A post-apoc thriller with twist! Love this series! First book laid out the story brilliantly. First series read by Steven Konkoly. Won’t be the last!

A great read

As always Mr. Konkoly delivers! Cannot wait to see what Larsen does with the next curveball thrown his way.

The crazy count rises!

In the previous book we followed Larsen and his team as they collected the virologist Dr. Chang, Westfield police officer David and his son Justin returning from a camping trip, Jack and Emma in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the emergency room physician Dr. Hale recovering from a walloping. In Indianapolis the suspected government sponsored virus continues to breed crazies at an alarming rate. Oddly, we still don’t know why this virus was turned loose on the population. Our mixed group holds up at the research facility NevoTech, while several more S.F. teams hunt for Dr. Chang. The plan is to get Dr. Chang and his research out of Indianapolis to a safe location and into the hands of the good guys. Trouble is it’s difficult to identify who the good guys are. There’s plenty of action, excitement, twists and turns, and good old fashioned mayhem from start to finish. The characters are likeable and plausible; my favorite is the sarcastic Larsen. The story concludes with the set-up for book three. I look forward to discovering how this all turns out.

Awesome non-stop action!

Loved it! Can't wait go listen to the third and final book in the trilogy. Literally non-stop action keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole book (same for book 1, too). Excellent character set supports the plot and keeps you hooked to find out how the action ends. A must read for fans of this genre!

I had to throw in the towell on this series

Besides the cartoon voices the narrator used, the disturbing trend of padding books with minutia in order to expand a series makes for a very long and boring book. This author has finally seen the last of me. This really isn't a book at all. It's a serial and nothing more a bunch of chapters. And to make it even worse, these chapters are stuffed full of silly plot exposition, boring details, and endless blathering. A good editor would cut out 50% of this "book" in order to make it worth the money. But because the author is trying to expand what should be one book into three, it ends up being padded with junk story arcs and and way too much ho-hum. I'm returning it, but sadly, I can't get a refund on my lost time invested before giving up on this author. Mr. Konkoly and I are parting ways.

Avg Semi Zombie Book

Good characters, somewhat interesting plot. Narration was good. Book is serialized so it just kind of ends so you can continue shelling out money to see what happens next. Too bad, because this author has seemed to have gotten better.
