Editorial reviews

A miserable mouse is weary of his rodent lifestyle: "people set traps on us and sick cats on us", he tells a local wizard. The mouse wants to be something else – he’s not sure exactly what. Hoping to transform himself, the mouse procures a magical potion from the wizard. Unfortunately, the wizard’s spells never work, and chances are this mirthless mouse will stay just that – a mouse. Then again, as young listeners will discover, the life of mice is rather nice after all.

Actor Ian Thomson is sprightly and animated as he portrays a stuffy, witless wizard and his melancholy mouse patron. Thomson’s lively character acting ensures young listeners will have no trouble understanding this important message about being comfortable in one’s own skin.

A visit to the wizard to buy a magic spell seems to be the best solution for a little mouse who wants to be something else.

No Pictures

I am going through the list of books with synchronized pictures and though this is categorized as such, I have only found Flossie and the Fox to have moving pictures.

Still in love after all these years

I loved this book so much as a child; I'm happy to see it still out in the world. And now someone can read it to me before bed!

I love the illustrations that play with the audio!

Sometimes my kid just wants to hear someone else's voice reading or wants to enjoy books while I'm busy - we've been slowly going through and buying the audible books from the With Synchronized Images category and have found that some are mis-categorized and don't have images. This one DOES have the original illustrations and we just love it! This is such a fun, goofy book that we can play over and over.
