Fond memories ruined by reality

I remembered the dogs with huge eyes, the chests of different coins, and the princess, but forgot how the soldier got the tinder box. He shoved an old lady down a hole because he didn't trust her. He knew her all of a few minutes and decided she deserved broken bones and a slow death of starvation. He couldn have said no to giving her the tinder box and left. Nope, murder it is. Fairy tales are messed up.
