Please bring back Laura Linney (narrator)!

What did you like best about The Sign of The Twisted Candle? What did you like least?

My children enjoyed all these Nancy Drew audiobooks. Good for about age 11 and up.

Any additional comments?

The first few books were narrated by Laura Linney who did a fantastic job. I am sorry to say that the new narrator's pretending to be different people (strange voices) is actually distracting; hence the three stars.

Narrator problems....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have enjoyed all of the Nancy Drew books and I am now sharing them with my children. We have enjoyed the audio versions narrated by Laura Linney. Danica Reese's narration, however, doesn't measure up....

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Danica Reese?

Laura Linney.

Was The Sign of The Twisted Candle worth the listening time?

The story was good; the narration distracted from the story.

Narrator

I really wanted to enjoy this story since I've always loved Nancy Drew books. However, this narrator was terrible! You may want to check the sample audio clip before downloading it. She seems to get confused between the different voices at times which makes it confusing to tell who is talking. Also, all of the men sound like they have a terrible head cold.

Terrible Narration

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, b/c I had a concussion and could not read. Nancy Drew books are still my go-to (at the age of 45!!) when I am super-stressed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nancy, duh!

What didn’t you like about Danica Reese’s performance?

It was just awful. Her voices/accents were ridiculous, and she was overly-dramatic.

Could you see The Sign of The Twisted Candle being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think that's already been done...

Any additional comments?

Can we please get Laura Linney to narrate the rest of the series??

Nancy Drew is great for mature younger listeners!

Would you listen to The Sign of The Twisted Candle again? Why?

My granddaughters are 4 and 6 and my nephew is 8. We listened to this book in the car. They could not wait to get in the car and listen to their book. For those of you who have traveled long distances with young children, you know it can be quite challenging at times. However, with a good book to listen to, the trips are now a breeze. Nancy Drew provided suspense, but was written on a level that they could understand, but kept me interested as well. Often, there were teachable moments, too. They did not realize that when these books were written, there were no cell phones. This gave me an opportunity for a little history. The four year old was not quite as interested but she stayed quiet anyway. This book allowed the kids to use their imaginations, too. Also, Nancy is a kind and caring person. There is a moral to the story--and the bad guys always get caught. There is no killing or any of that gory stuff either. Like I said, the perfect story for younger children !!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hannah is my favorite character. She is only the Drew housekeeper. She has helped to raise Nancy since she was 4 years old and loves her like a daughter. Although the book never says this, it is obvious from her concern for Nancy.

What does Danica Reese bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The change in voices gives each character an individuality and makes the story much easier to follow then if it was just read. It makes the book much more fun and interesting!

Really enjoyed this

Listened to this with my 10-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl and we all liked the narration and story. I particularly enjoy the fact that it introduces them to a time where there were no cell phones! We like the original Nancy Drew stories best.

Same Dismal Narration! ( And Narrator???)

PLEASE!!!! For the love of all that is sacred and holy...BRING BACK LAURA LINNEY!

This narrator sounds SUSPICIOUSLY like the narrator of "Nancy's Mysterious Letter", Jessie Birschbach, regardless of the name Danica Reese, which is listed.

The same HORRIBLE voice inflections, and RIDICULOUS attempts to give the various characters distinguishably different voices!

HEY! Jesse! Danica! A word of advice. Just read the book without adding your special flourishes. Because seriously, you SUCK at character impersonation and representation! You're both just bloody awful!

I cannot impress upon you how terrible these performances are! If I could rate the narrators as -40 stars, I would.

Another massacre of a beautifully written, renowned childhood classic!

(P.S. Ms. Laura Linney - If you happen to read these reviews, please, PLEASE RESCUE US!!! Come back, pick up where you left off, and re-record books 8-56. Thank you.)
