Critic reviews

"You wouldn't necessarily think that a desperate and dangerous quest to prevent Ragnarok, the great battle at the end of the world, would be funny - but there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments in this third Magnus Chase audiobook. As Magnus, narrator Michael Crouch hits that tone just right....Crouch is the third narrator to tackle this appealing Stonewall Award-winning series, and if it continues, one hopes that Crouch will return to the helm." Percy Jackson is the eponymous hero of the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. He made his debut in The Lightning Thief at just 12 years old, where he discovered the shocking truth about his parentage: He is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and the god Poseidon. Beyond his own series, he was one of the protagonists in the Heroes of Olympus series and has since appeared in other spin-off novels and series from Riordan.

Enjoyable, Best Voice of the Series

First off, the voice. I really enjoy Michael Couch's voice with this. He captures each of the characters very nicely, even the females. Christopher Guetig did okay with the first one, but the second guy did NOT pull it off. Michael does the best in that regard. I especially loved his Irish accent for Mallory. The guy who did Hammer of Thor completely forgot about that I suppose. He did Alex's voice well, too.

As for the story itself, it's another blast just as in Riordan's other books, and even though his formula never changes much, you never get tired of it. The only real criticism I have is that its a bit back story heavy. I mean, we get more of Alex's past, as well as a bit of Magnus'. We also get some for ALL of Floor 19: Mallory, Halfborn, and TJ. While I love the back stories for them, especially Mallory, I can't help but feel like it could have been a bit more spread out, either in some new books or in Sword of Summer and Hammer of Thor. I mean, Magnus sits and has a talk with EACH of them, and they just tell about what happened. Some of it could have been a bit more subtle, like when Magnus heals TJ and sees his mother scolding him, or a nice reveal like what they did with Mallory.

Overall, it was a great story with great narration. I hope this isn't how he ends this series, because there's so much he could do with it. I'm excited for the future of this series!

It’s a “godly” work of fiction! 10/10

I love this series to death! No doubt there’ll probably be another book and I can’t even wait to see what Rick cooks up next!

I love his story telling.

Chase Magnus has the best personality! He is witty and loyal. And. You learn so much about Norse mythology.

Amazing

This was amazing. Simply amazing. I love this story. Riordan never fails to amaze me. A beautiful and true ending to the trilogy that will change the way you think about Norse mythology. This trilogy is as good as Percy Jackson. A must read, or in this case, listen. The speaking was easily understood, but had enough expression to be genuine. Recommended to everyone I know, and those whom I don't know. Well worth a few dollars.

This is pretty ok

I have read or listen to everything by Rick Riordan. The Magnus Chase series is pretty ok. I don’t like it as much as the other series but it’s still a fun read and a good way to learn about Norse Mythology.

Hooked on Riordan

My wife has read all Riordan’s books and as we were taking a long road trip we decided to listen to this book on the way. I had never read any of his work, but I’m hooked now! The performance of the narration also made for a great mental visual of the storyline! Next road trip is coming up soon so we’ll be coming back for more!

good story rough narrorator

The book was a pretty good I enjoyed it I enjoy all stories involving mythology generally however the narrator kind of disappointed me if you gonna take over at the end of a series why not perhaps do a little research on words and names you don't know how to pronounce

Rick Riordan

One thing I like about his books is that they all are connect most of them anyways and he includes all types of people and that is something that all books need.
