Publisher's Summary

The ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.

Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara's home. And only a winter child and the ice dragon who loved her could save her world from utter destruction.

The Ice Dragon is an unforgettable tale of courage, love, and sacrifice by one of the most honored fantasists of all time.

©1980 George R.R. Martin

    "G. R. R. Martin and Dragon's make a good listen"

George R R Martin has alway writen a good story. The Ice Dragon makes another good listen.
I enjoy longer more involed story lines better than short stories. How ever Ice Dragon is a very fine short listen. Give it a try.

What made the experience of listening to The Ice Dragon the most enjoyable?

It is a nice story, I enjoyed it but was surprised when it ended.

If you’ve listened to books by George R. R. Martin before, how does this one compare?

I haven't listened to this author before.

Have you listened to any of Maggi Meg Reed’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to this narrator before.

    Any additional comments?

Wish it were a longer story

    "Cool Hwip"

The narrator is perfectly fine until she gets to any word beginning with "wh" because she accentuates the H before the W and it is absolutely maddening once you notice it. Hweel, Hwy, Hwat, Hwen, etc. I also downloaded Going Clear on the same day and coincidentally the narrator for that book does the same thing, but not nearly as bad as Maggi Meg Reed. I will be avoiding her in all future purchases.

My taste differs from kid books to gory horror books.

    "Throne Starter Kit"

I would not have bought this for regular price, but at under $4.00, I think it is worth it. Debra hits the nail on the head when she says Happy or Sad, according to your compass. I personally thought it was sad, but coming from Martin, that is to be expected. It is a good story for adults, not sure about kids? Not sure why it was written, but sometimes a story is just a story.

    "A sad story...or is it"

As one would expect from the author of "Game of Thrones", the story is a sad/happy one. Only George Martin could write a story with a happy ending while maintaining a sad story. Or is it the other way around? It depends on which compass point you look at it from, north or south.

this is more of a child's novel which I appreciate because it's great to share the world of GRRM with the people closest to me...my children.

"Classic GRRM with precursor ideas for ASOIAF"

Wonderful little novella with a lot of heart and emotion as well as death and pain in classic GRRM fashion. The story seems very much a dabble toward ASOIAF and you can see how he drew on it for that massive tale.
