Publisher's summary

The debut of a phenomenal new middle-grade talent.

In all the ways that matter, Mark is a normal kid. He's got a dog named Beau and a best friend, Jessie. He likes to take photos and write haiku poems in his notebook. He dreams of climbing a mountain one day.

But in one important way, Mark is not like other kids at all. Mark is sick. The kind of sick that means hospitals. And treatments. The kind of sick some people never get better from.

So Mark runs away. He leaves home with his camera, his notebook, his dog, and a plan to reach the top of Mount Rainier - even if it's the last thing he ever does.

The Honest Truth is a rare and extraordinary novel about big questions, small moments, and the incredible journey of the human spirit.

amazing!

This book is so well written! It described the challenges, emotionally and physically, of having cancer and having a goal. The narrator did a great job representing how everyone felt. This book is incredible and I 100% recommend it to any 10-15 year old.

my daughter loved it

It was a nice story, it kept the attention of my 12 year old autistic daughter well. and helped get her into listening to audiobooks since she hates to read.

I personally like the story but thought it could use a little better ending. I felt like the book just stopped where there should have been another chapter.

fantastic adventure story for middle grade

this is great adventure story for Middle School students. reading it as an adult the explanation of the lessons at the end can be a little heavy-handed but they are a great catalyst for classroom discussion. plenty of tension and drama.
