Publisher's Summary

A mouse is taking a stroll through the deep, dark woods when along comes a hungry fox, then an owl, and then a snake. The mouse is good enough to eat, but smart enough to know this - so he invents...the gruffalo! As Mouse explains, the gruffalo is a creature with terrible claws, terrible tusks in its terrible jaws, knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of its nose. But Mouse has no worries. After all, there's no such thing as a gruffalo...is there?
Listen to the sequel, Gruffalo's Child.

My 2 year old is O B S E S S E D with this book

I've listened to this audiobook at least 20 times and I will surely listen to it at least 20 more. I listened to it twice on the way to drop off the 2 year old yesterday. He is completely obsessed with "The Grump-falo" and has been carrying the book everywhere and insisting on the audiobook in the car and occasionally in the house. Luckily this recording is excellent!

I absolutely love the story itself

What did you like best about The Gruffalo? What did you like least?

I enjoy the story in full,I love the thought process of the mouse. I didn't care for the narrator at all and as a listener, I really loved the narrator on the short story movie The grufflo I found on amazon, the woman telling this story for the movie version, was able to grab my attention right away & with that,I was able to really listen to the story and I fell in love.
I was disappointed when I heard this narrator and wasn't able to make the connection needed to actually listen to the story itself and enjoy it enough to keep the book. I did purchase the hardback Gufflo book from amazon to read to Son I've also memorized it😊

What other book might you compare The Gruffalo to and why?

This was the first children's book I've ever ever read so I have no comparisons

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Not all all, in my opinion

Do you think The Gruffalo needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No I don't think it needs to be anymore to the story because it's perfect ending says it all
And there is also the book Grufflos child but it just wasn't for me

Mouse vs. Gruffalo

I liked the rhythm and style of the writer. However, my 3 yr old male child did not understand the significance of the mouse telling all those lies & it helping him towards & @ the end. It really should be labeled as 5 yrs and over for that reason. I believe. Otherwise, it's a great story! Junemarie

Simply dreadful

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story, of course, is wonderful. The reading, however, is ATROCIOUS!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Hal Hollings?

Alexander Armstrong

Great story!

My 4 yr old loves to listen to this one over and over. The narrator does a great job with the characters and he doesn't get too soft or too loud.

Bigger and scarier!

Little mouse can't be eaten for lunch! He must prove to the gruffalo that he is fierce and feared.

Cute reading to pair with the physical book.

Good Story, but No Pictures.

This is a very cute story, but I wish that the illustrations had been included in this audio book edition.

terrific narrator & wonderful children's book

I am so glad I purchased this book. the narrator is wonderful. the story comes alive as she reads it. my children were glued to every word. we listened to this story in the car and the kids were so good during the drive as soon as the story ended they were asking for another. I am going to look for more stories by the same narrator.

An all time favourite at our house

My two year old loves the gruffalo book. I bought the audio book and she listens to it every night as she goes off to sleep. A wonderful rhyming story with descriptive characters and a lovely ending. My daughter now recites it word for word.

Repeat request from my pre-schooler

A gorgeous story, warmly narrated and just the right length for little ones. My pre-schooler wants to hear this over and over and if you have the book, this narration brings out it's magic even more. We read and listen to a lot of books together and this is definitely one of her favourites.
