"Great alternative to watching movies in the car!"

My kids get car sick if they don't look out the window from time to time (it's Karma coming back to get me for all the times I threw up in my dad's car) so we have banned movies in the car. This is a great alternative. It keeps the kids entertained while allowing them to share their attention with the outside environment. Thus reducing the chances of vomit in the car which makes us all happy. It's a win for everyone.

Each of my three kids, ages ranging from 2 to 8 years old, enjoy listening and have their favorite stories. They even request to listen to it while we are home and eating lunch, or coloring, or even cleaning their rooms (which is a very painful ordeal made a little less painful by the distraction of a story).

My five year old loves to listen to The Cat in the Hat and has even memorized portions of it so when we read it at night she can follow along with me and can even recognize words. I believe it has helped her to better understand the concept of sounding out words.

At first I was concerned that some of the performances may be a little too dry to keep my kids entertained but I quickly saw that they were captivated by each narrator. It was fun for me as well to hear familiar actors telling the stories I grew up reading. I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone.

    "My kids loved this"

The 5 & 2 year old loved this. The performances are fantastic, and of course the stories are great. Even without Dr Seuss's illustrations, the stories hold up. Very easy to listen to with these great actors reading, though it would have been nice to have a female narrator in the mix.

"Pictures would be a good option"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There is some distracting music in the background that takes away from the story. This book would have been better if it was accompanied by pictures from the books. No pictures and the mismatched music take away from the value and limits the applicable age ranges.

"Read a little too fast for small folks."
What did you like best about The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites? What did you like least?

Book is read a little too fast for younger children. It seems this selection and those chosen to narrate it was for adults to recognize? The Dr. Seuss app books has narrators that seem to read a bit slower for children to grasp.

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

I really enjoyed some of the readings, but I believe they were read too quickly for children who may be learning how to speak. I really think the music accompanying the stories helps to immerse folks in the fun.

    Any additional comments?

I wanted to comment on some folks finding the "Audible version" of this recording and perhaps mixing it up with the "Kindle Fire App", which is a series of 3 or 4 books set up as an actual application. 1) To play the application, you must make sure you are purchasing from the App Store on Amazon.com. The App allows you to read through the book itself, where people can click on the words or pictures to hear the sounds repeated. The stories in the book can also be read to you or you can read them at your own pace. The App would be located in your "Apps" section of your Kindle Fire. 2) The Audible version is a larger selection of stories with only the narration and no pictures or pages to view. It's a different item from the Dr. Seuss book apps. However! To listen to the Audible version on your Kindle Fire, make sure you have the Audible.com Application, (should be free) - which connects to "Audible" and downloads the recorded book from this website. Then, if you select the Audible App on your Kindle Fire, you will be able to listen to your purchase. _____ We have both types at the house, so when I saw some folks commenting that they were unable to listen to the Audible version, I wanted to help! :) I also wanted to try to point the way to the amazon.com application for the Dr. Seuss book as an app for Kindle Fire.

    "We All Enjoyed this one"

Ideal for a family car trip. Adults enjoyed working out who the voice talents were, and all the beloved stories were well narrated. At two hours this is well worth the credit.

The reason I did not give this 5 stars is the music is a bit too intrusive (I have a child that is hard of hearing, and the background music would sometimes obscure out the words).

Would you consider the audio edition of The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites to be better than the print version?

Nothing beats the printed copy of any book but I do recommend the audio version for people that read on the go.

    "My 3 year-old loves it!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites to be better than the print version?

Depending on the situation, yes. We enjoy playing it in the car for long car rides and also for my son to fall asleep to some nights when he is too energetic to fall asleep after reading books.

    Any additional comments?

Great to keep a young toddler entertained in ways other than popular radio stations in the car or falling asleep to the television.

    Story
"The Cat in the Hat and Others by Dr. Seuss"
What made the experience of listening to The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites the most enjoyable?

The fact that I can cuddle in bed with my little one and listen to, not read, some of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is an awesome way to end our night.

What did you like best about this story?

There wasn't just one particular thing that I enjoyed best, I would honestly have to say that all the stories as a whole were pretty amazing (although my daughter would probably say its the sounds in the background along with the music).

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to the various narrators brought not only their individual voices (which are extremely different from my own), but it gave my daughter a chance to experience the stories through someone else's viewpoint.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The absolute best thing about these stories is the fact that my daughter enjoys them so much, that she actually asks to listen to them everynight before falling asleep.

"nice varity. My son's favorite audio book by far"
Would you listen to The Cat in the Hat and Other Dr. Seuss Favorites again? Why?

yes we would. The calibur of actors they have reading these stories is wonderful and they do Dr. Seuss justice. My son listens to this almost every night.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Horton from Horton hears a who.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

    Great selection.

"Great if you have the books"

A large part of the appeal of Dr Seuss books is the strange and fantastic pictures that accompany the rhymes. Obviously you are not going to get these with an audio book. I would therefore recommend this only once you have got the books. That way your child and you can really enjoy the thorough nonsense of the Seuss phenomenon.
