Publisher's summary

In the imaginary kingdom of Prydain, Princess Eilonwy must leave her friends to go to the Isle of Mona for training as a proper princess. Because Eilonwy has magical powers, she is sought by Achren, the most evil enchantress in the land. Shortly after her arrival on the Isle of Mona, something sinister and secret befalls her. Eilonwy's loyal friends, Taran, the Assistant Pig-Keeper; Flewddur, the bard; and Prince Rhun, her intended husband, realize her peril and set out on an exciting and terrifying mission to rescue her. They encounter great forces of evil as well as private, sometimes painful, revelations in the course of their journey.

Harry Potter, Percy Jackson Fans, This is For You!

This is the 3rd book in the Chronicles of Prydain, and I highly recommend all of them. If you love great adventures, well drawn lovable characters, and profound life lessons, you will love Prydain. Lloyd Alexander creates the world of Prydain loosely based on Welsh mythology. They are excellent excellent books! For those who have listened to Harry Potter, James Langton does as good a job as Jim Dale. It was wonderful to listen to him bring Taran and his friends to life. This is a book written for younger readers (middle school and late elementary) but high schoolers and adults will take much from it also. Do yourself a favor--read these books!

Should be required reading for all young adults

So much better than the hog farts stories being foisted on popular culture today. These stories have courage and loyalty and sacrifice, and humility, and charity written throughout every page all within the context of a grand adventure.

They don't get any better than this

They don't get any better than this, at least not after Harry Potter, I think. (15 words)

Great story

Fun characters and a quick read. A nice easy fantasy book to get into especially if it’s your first fantasy book. Narrator does a great job as well.

Another great one

Quite possibly one of the best series of books ever and this one is one of the best. You really see the characters mature and new ones brought in without disrupting the main characters’ growth.
