Publisher's summary

A kid favorite for over 30 years, this award-winning modern-classic is sure to delight listeners for years to come!

When William learns that his favorite caretaker Mrs. Phillips is leaving, he is devastated. But then she gives him her parting gift - a mysterious model castle that has been in her family for years. The castle is perfect in every way, with a drawbridge, a moat, and a fingerhigh knight to guard the gates. It's almost too real.

Sure enough, when William picks up the tiny silver knight, Sir Simon comes alive in his hand and tells William a mighty story of wild sorcery, wizards, and a kingdom in need of saving. Hoping the castle's magic holds the key to getting his friend to stay, William embarks on a fantastic quest to another land and another time - where a fiery dragon and an evil wizard are waiting to do battle.

Fun kids story.

I loved this book as s kid so decided to give it a shot as an adult. I can now see many problems with it but that doesn't matter as a kid. I think it takes he main character through a rewarding adventure that gives a good life lesion at the end.
It is also fun to picture. Recommended.

Fun and Exciting

My husband read this as a kid and wanted to share it with our daughter. It took some time to get rolling and capture her attention but it was great for bedtime.

A Perfect Adventurous Story for Our 7 Y/O

Listened to the book on a road trip. My husband, son and myself really enjoyed it. The performance as well as the actual story was pleasantly engaging. A heroic story is always welcome in our home.

Excellent story!

I read this book when I was a child. Just listen to it again with my own children. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. The different performances by the voice actors were wonderful.

Fabulous book but acting was mediocre

So this has been one of my favorite books since I was seven years old. I wanted to love everything about the audiobook, but some of the voice actors left a lot to be desired. Mrs. Phillips spoke very quickly and sounded rude, and was not played by a British actress as it should have been. Search Simon sounded like an old man. Maybe he was supposed to be but that’s not how I imagined his voice at all. I know that the author narrated the book but she sounded so robotic that for a while I thought it was a computerized voice. The kid who played William did a good job. All in all though, I’m happy with the purchase because the story is so good.
