Publisher's summary

Living with his little brother, Fudge, makes Peter Hatcher feel like a fourth grade nothing. Whether Fudge is throwing a temper tantrum in a shoe store, smearing mashed potatoes on the walls at Hamburger Heaven, or scribbling all over Peter's homework, he's never far from trouble. He's a two-year-old terror who gets away with everything, and Peter's had enough.

When Fudge walks off with Dribble, Peter's pet turtle, it's the last straw. Peter has put up with Fudge for too long. How can he get his parents to pay attention to him for a change?

Critic reviews

"It should be true that the author is the best narrator of his/her own work, and Blume more than fulfills this expectation. In a children's title, it's especially grand if the reader can capture all of the bratty, sweet, and simple nuances of the little characters. Blume is great as the parents, pretentious boss, and older brother, and she outdoes herself with two-year-old Fudge. She throws the perfect temper tantrum and cajoles adults with the best of them. All listeners, regardless of age, can identify with the exasperation of the older child who's often called upon to parent." (AudioFile)

Featured Article: On the Enduring Legacy of Judy Blume

Judy Blume's middle grade and young adult novels have helped raise generations of kids, reshaping the literary landscape for young listeners. Since the 1970s, Blume's writing has contributed to destigmatizing taboo topics like puberty, teen sexuality, masturbation, menstruation, bullying, disability, and more. And now, rather than her books being deemed outdated or no longer relevant to today's kids, we're experiencing a "Blume-aissance."

Great family audiobook

I listened to this audio book with my nine-year-old son and we loved it! We can't wait to go onto the next Judy Blume book.

One of my favorites of all time!!

What better way to listen to the antics of Fudgie than to hear the author read it herself!! My best school memory is hearing Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing read aloud in class. Love this book!

It’s quite an interesting book

The story was great, and odd, and somewhat relatable. I enjoyed reading it and I read it three times because I liked it that much. The narrator’s voice sounded... interesting. Like the sound a pillow makes when you hit it. It’s was kind of breathy and slow. I don’t know why I’m including this in the review, I just felt like saying it 🤷🏻‍♀️

walk down memory lane

I was SUCH a Judy Blume fan when I was younger. I think I read just about every J. Blume book, but the Superfudge series was by far my favorite! I loved these so much I turned both my daughter and niece on to these silly stories and made little readers out of them, they loved them all, especially Fudge & Freckle Juice! I'd recommend this series and just about anything Judy Blume to any young reader. You won't regret it, young ones, you'll enjoy the crazy adventures of Peter Hatcher & his silly brother Fudge!

great family listen!

This is a classic that never gets old. Perfect for our 2nd graders, and very funny for adults too. Especially wonderful to hear the author narrate.

Great

My daughter picked this audible book. I listen to it & we talked about it. We both like the story but we found the voice of the reader annoying. Let me add that I find it funny that the readers voice is annoying because one of the characters, Fudge, is also annoying. It’s a children’s book & I would recommend it to anyone who is bonding with their children. We won’t be listening to any more of this author at bed time.

Not a waste of a credit

A classic, narration excellent. Usually, an author narrating his or her own books isn't so great, but Judy Blume, who I've been a fan of for years, pulls it off.
Peter losing hhis turtle almost made me cry. Lost a dog and a few cats to illnesses, so, I know what that's like.

A favorite from my childhood, and now a family favorite. Judy Blume does a tremendous job narrorating her novel, especially Fudge.
