Well written, fast paced ... but extremely violent

I really enjoy these type of YA books on my long commute and after listening to the first one I really liked the world, albeit not a very deeply drawn world. The narrator captures the personalities of all the characters extremely well and even pulls off a very good american accent for Saguine.

It is full of action and adventure - but it turns violent quickly and horrifically. The reader is not spared any detail including blood, gore and even death. Now this doesn't bother me as an adult listener but I would caution parents wanting to use this book on a road trip. Unless you have a van load of 12 year old boys - it might be too graphic.

Overall I enjoyed it and would buy the next in the series, but parents be forewarned.

The Narration Brings Wonderful Fun to this Story

My 12 year old daughter loved reading this series of books so much, she wanted to share them with me. We found the first audio book at the public library, but not the subsequent books. We fell in love with the narrator and the wry humor of these stories. There is some scary stuff in these stories, but the story always keeps moving and the 13 year old heroine confronts her fears and puts her trust in her friends and her growing abilities (a great message for my introverted, bookish daughter). My seven year old loves the story too!

Sequel turned serious

For some reason I enjoyed the first one better, It's hard to say why exactly, although the story line has become more complicated and the whole thing has a more 'serious' tone to it.
It is definitely worth getting though and it leaves the cue for another sequel at the end which I am sure to buy.
Also, it is up a level on the grossness scale, probably best only for teens and older.

Very Entertaining

Rupert Degas is the very best narrator in the business. He has hundreds of voices which he uses to give voice to every character. No one sounds like the other.

This novel is about vampires and their tiffs. Yes there is violence but it can hardly be taken seriously especially in one scene the boyfriend thought he had killed her. Very soon after this ugly scene she pops out from bushes and let him know that he had killed her shadow.

I recommend this book to anyone 12yrs and over.

Our whole family loves these stories!

These stories are darkly hilarious and exciting, but it's Degas' narration that keeps us coming back. Thanks for another great listen!

Great series for upper elementary/ middle school

My son loves this series. He has asked that I get all of the books. The narrator is great. The characters are witty and the plot moves along at a fast pace. It is a bit violent , so if you have sensitive kids beware of that.

Old man voice

The narrator dose what sounds like old man voices for a few people including mr bliss who is supposed to be in his 20-30s because sorcerers don't age very fast, and he is only a few years older than China
