Editorial reviews

Many know of the young Anne of Green Gables. However, many fewer know that Montgomery continued Anne's saga through her adult years. This work, the final installment, concerns Anne and Gilber's youngest child, daughter Rilla. It is the summer of 1914, and Rilla is a typically frivolous adolescent girl of 15. However, as the war engulfs her world, she becomes a woman, who must embrace triumphs and tragedies. Barbara Caruso gives a winsome performance in keeping with the heroine. Caruso's voice is clear and her delivery soft. She performs each character with energy and great expression, affecting a separate voice for each.

Delightful Rendition

L.M. Montgomery's "Rilla of Ingleside" was always one of my favorite books growing up, and it is just as delightful to rediscover it now. Barbara Caruso's voice is flexible and captures the different 'voices' in the novel very well. There is some serious (wartime) subject matter, and she carries this off very well in addition to the lighter, humorous material. This audiobook is a very enjoyable listen for any Anne fans.

Best book Iv'e heard

I loved this book I've listened to it at least 10 times. I can nearly say it word for word. I think the narrator really understands the people in the book

I wish this series had not ended. It was such a pleasant break from the chaos happening in the United States.

If you’re tired of the chaos and vitriol that’s taking place in the United States, this is the book for you. Starting with Anna Green Gable‘s, each book successively brought you into the world of Green Gable and lifted my heart.

Beloved classic, brought to life by the narrator

This is one of my all time favorite books, however, I had never listened to it. This narrator brought each character to life in a way that deepened the story and made it shine anew. Well worth your time!

A faithful take on a childhood classic

Old books can often simply feel dated. While this one isn't entirely exempt, it is also singularly charming and life affirming in a way that one rarely encounters anymore. Earnest and heart-warming without becoming saccharine.

Book good, narrator not so much

This used to be one of my favourite entires in the Anne of Green Gables series. I still enjoyed the story of young Rilla Blythe growing up during World War 1, although some of the pro-war sentiments now bother me. However I found that the narrator's vocal affectations and mannerisms sometimes got in the way, calling attention to themselves and, thus, detracting from the story.

Heartfelt story of family and love

The narration was perfect and the characters so real. Made me laugh and cry. I loved the historical significance of it and how the women were so strong during the war.

Not a great narration

The story is one of my original favorites. It is so sweet and sad. It is beautiful.
The thing is, the narrator makes everyone’s voices sound like old ladies voices! Even Kenneth Ford sounds like an old grandmother! And Anne sounds way too old.
Anyways, I love this story, but you should definitely listen to the sample to see if you like it before you spend your credits.

Beautiful ending to the series

I like this one for its dive into World War I and the theme of war and conflict in general and how it conflicts with the theme of youthfulness and joy that is ever so present throughout the series.
