Publisher's Summary

As the inhabitants of Redwall Abbey bask in the glorious Summer of the Late Rose, all is quiet and peaceful. But things are not as they seem. Cluny the Scourge, the evil one-eyed rat warlord, is hell-bent on destroying the abbey's tranquility as he prepares to fight a bloody battle for the ownership of Redwall.

This dazzling story in the Redwall series is packed with wit, wisdom, humor, and blood-curdling adventure, but has the added bonus of taking the listener to the heart and soul of Redwall Abbey and the characters who live there.

What the Critics Say

"This epic adventure contains elements of all grand quests, with heroic archetypes that will keep fans of Tolkein and King Arthur tales engaged to the final battle." (Publishers Weekly)

"Very good narration, but author's version better"

Redwall is a great series, and this first book is something our whole family enjoys. I won't go into detail about the story but save my comments for the audio. Stuart Blinder offers up a very good version at a good price. I have listened to the version narrated by the author in its entirety, and it is better, but it's also quite a bit more expensive. Stuart Blinder's version is also a bit easier to understand for those not used to the author's more pronounced local accent (which I find charming). Brian Jacques's "Cluny" voice is far better than Stuart Blinder's, and if you can splurge, go for that version.

This audio book was a great way to pass the time on our road trip. The story more than kept our interest and the narrator did a superb job!

    "Great Stuff"

Classic story of good over evil, but told in such an entertaining fashion that you just have to smile and cheer: REDWALL! Having said that I have to say that the narrator was not up to par, he takes a great story and makes it boring. I prefer the way Brian Jacques narrates.

If you like evil villains, noble warriors, hilarious accents, and lots of food this is the book for you. (but maybe not the narrator?)

"A Children's Classic to be enjoyed by everyone!"
If you could sum up Redwall in three words, what would they be?

    Delightfully entertaining journey

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course it has to be Mathias.... my new hero

What three words best describe Stuart Blinder’s performance?

I enjoyed the narration just fine. Since I purchased this rendition, it has come to my attention there is another which is full cast. I have never listened to a full cast narration before, but to continue the series that is the only option. I much prefer journeying through a series, with the same narrator for all books. It is because of that, I probably would have purchased the full cast edition, had I known of it.

    Any additional comments?

I was not aware of this series until a teen told me of it very recently. It is a great discovery and plan on introducing my grandchildren to the wonderful world that is Redwall.

intreating plot and story, but it's slow and drawn out. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to the main character. But little by little I stopped caring and now I am unable to finish this book. I will just skip to the end and hopefully it is not too drawn out too.

    "Don't buy this version."

I will say this is a well done audiobook, and I love this story. But, you should definitely buy the one narrated by the author and a full cast. The reader of this book does a fantastic job telling the story.

Read this book in high school and still find it very entertaining, Brian Jacques way of explaining a scene really puts you there.

I GREATLY prefer this narrator to the original. His style gives each character so much life and a unique voice to each one that was easily recognizable throughout the book. I really hope he goes on to narrate the rest of the books, so I can enjoy them!!
