Editorial reviews

With the help of her magic wonderpen, Philomena can make her drawings become real. Indeed, listeners will meet Philomena in the process of sketching up a marshmallow cushion. Nevertheless, the wonderpen doesn’t always work as planned. Visiting a toy store, Philomena accidentally shrinks herself down to doll-sized dimensions. Embarking on a pint-sized plight, Philomena goes for a spin in a toy car, and takes flight in a model airplane.

Prolific actress, director, and playwright Melissa Chambers delivers stunningly rangy voice acting rife with sprightly exuberance. Notably, Chambers contrasts the brash spontaneity of Philomena with the more staid reserve of her friend George. Indeed, Chambers delivers the same diversity of voices that one might well expect to encounter in the course of a feature-length Disney film.

Publisher's summary

Here's the second book in the witty and magical Philomena Wonderpen series.

Everyone from Philomena's class will be at Toy Universe this Saturday. A silver ticket has been hidden in the store. And whoever finds it wins a mountain of toys! Philomena and her friends have a plan to find the silver ticket. But then Philomena gets stuck looking after her little brother, Tobias. If only she had some magic way to catch up with her friends.... Then, she remembers her wonder pen and draws herself some rocket shoes. She says the magic words - "I wish!" - but instead of seeing her rocket shoes, she and Tobias have become teeny weeny! Will they ever get back to normal size?

Fun story for children 8 and under

My 7 yo girl and 5 yo boy loved this creative story! Despite a significant Aussie accent, my kids could follow the plot well, and the story has a healthy dose of excitement but nothing scary. My daughter related to the trials and tribulations of having an over-active imagination.
