Publisher's Summary

Best-selling authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have turned back the clock and revealed a wonderful story that precedes J. M. Barrie's beloved Peter Pan.

In an evocative and fast-paced adventure on the high seas and on a faraway island, an orphan boy named Peter and his mysterious new friend, Molly, overcome bands of pirates and thieves in their quest to keep a fantastical secret safe and save the world from evil.

This riveting adventure takes listeners on a journey from a harsh orphanage in old England to a treacherous sea in a decrepit old tub. Aboard the Never Land is a trunk that holds a magical substance with the power to change the fate of the world - just a sprinkle and wounds heal; just a dusting and people can fly. Towering seas and a violent storm are the backdrop for battles at sea. Bone-crushing waves eventually land our characters on Mollusk Island - where the action really heats up.

Peter and the Starcatchers is brimming with richly developed characters, from the scary but somehow familiar Black Stache and the ferocious Mister Grin to the sweet but sophisticated Molly and the fearless Peter.

"Dale has the uncanny knack of knowing his characters; he presents each personality to us as an intimate acquaintance." (AudioFile)

What the Critics Say

"The real lure is the richly drawn characters, especially the villains, who exhibit just the right amount of swagger and smirk." (Booklist)
"Jim Dale gives a one-man performance that is truly astonishing. He creates distinct voices for all the characters - pirates, women, British soldiers, and native tribesmen. Adults and children alike will enjoy this rollicking tale." (AudioFile)

    "To be A Kid Again"

This story was fantastic! If you don't know jack about Peter Pan, this is a great origin story od sorts. If you are familiar, you will find yourself thinking "AHA!" throughout the tale as the authors cleverly create histories behind the iconic childhoid hero's world. Jim Dale is, as always, fabulous to listen to and adds great life to what he reads. Can't say enough good things about this one! 12/10!!!

    "How Peter Became Peter Pan"
    Any additional comments?

Young orphan Peter & his 4 buddies from the orphanage are unknowingly being shipped off to an evil king to serve as his expendable servant boys. During the ship voyage, Peter crosses paths with Molly, the daughter of an important Englishman. Her father is on a different ship on a secret mission en route to the same destination. Molly soon discovers that the trunk her father was sworn to protect is actually on her ship --- the trunks had been secretly switched to further protect its contents. In an effort to protect the trunk, Molly must enlist the help of a trustworthy person which she finds nearly impossible given the people aboard her ship, the "Neverland". She eventually chooses to trust Peter, & the 2 devise a plan to protect & safely deliver the valuable contents of the trunk, the star stuff. Of course there is a pirate by the name of Captain Stash that is after the star stuff. Along with his sidekick Smee, they change course in order to intercept the star stuff. There are many thrilling things that happen along the journey, but ultimately Molly & Peter prevail in keeping the star stuff from getting in the wrong hands. After being reunited, Molly & her father discuss her efforts to protect the star stuff. When Molly's father discovers that Peter touched the gold chest full of star stuff in order to move it to a safe hiding spot, he becomes deeply interested in the what will happen next with Peter. You see, star stuff is so powerful that those who touch that large of a quantity directly usually die. However, Peter did NOT die! Instead he obtains some incredible abilities, the ability to fly & to stop aging, which Molly's father believes are permanent. Sound familiar?

This story was so fun! Put that together with my all-time favorite narrator Jim Dale......fireworks!
Anytime I find a book about the beginning of a story I already love, I'm going to read it! Learning how Peter Pan became the never-aging, flying kid that we know & love was a true magic. Together with his 4 orphan buddies (the Lost Boys) & his new friend Molly the star catcher, every chapter was a new thrill just waiting to be discovered!

    Age recommendation: all ages

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 10!

    "Peter and the Neverending Kidnappings"

I bought all the audio books for $4 each at the same time, and for that cheap, I feel like I've gotten ripped off. All of the books are the same. Insert name(s) here, get(s) kidnapped, insert name(s) here get(s) rescued or gets free. I'd say spoiler alert, but it's like saying spoiler alert, the sun is rising tomorrow. Do not waste your money on these. I'd be embarrassed if I'd have written these, or, written one book and published it five times trying to fool people into thinking I'd written five. They weren't conscerned about a good product, just using the Peter Pan name to milk idjiots out of money. Haha, see that, I used idjiots. In my one paragraph review, I've tied the starcatcher books hilarity count. Come to think of it, I've got just as many plot twists too.

    "Jim Dale Is Just Amazing!"
What made the experience of listening to Peter and the Starcatchers the most enjoyable?

Jim Dale. He should read every single book on the planet. He could probably make History an exciting thing to listen too.

What did you like best about this story?

Getting to know the origin story of Peter Pan. Plus Tinkerbell is a bad @$$

Have you listened to any of Jim Dale’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all the Harry Potter Books, and also the Stoneheart books as well. All of them are great and I would recommend giving them a go. He seriously makes every chapter an epic journey.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Tinkerbell being such a bad @$$. Didn't realize she was so feisty. :)

    Any additional comments?

Overall any book that Jim Dale reads is going to be good in my opinion. He is one of the best if not the best narrator out there. His character voices are consistent, unique and you fall in love with them. It's hard to move onto other books. The only reason I chose to listen to the Stoneheart Trilogy and all the Peter Pan books is because he is the narrator. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have read them or listened to them. Although on it's own. The Peter Pan books are amazing!
