Story
Drawn from the enchanting tales told to Kipling as a child in India, Just So Stories reveals the magic of the dawn of the world, when animals could talk and think like people. Cats and dogs, kangaroos and tortoises, hedgehogs and jaguars, whales and leopards, and many others are brought to life in an exotic Eastern landscape of "high and far times ago". Publisher's summary
There are few characters in literature more iconic than J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Originally introduced in 1902 in another Barrie novel (The Little White Bird), Peter's story was expanded as a standalone novel in 1911 and since then has been memorably adapted for the movies, for television, and for stage.
Now, actress Lily Collins (The Blind Side, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) brings new, youthful energy to Peter's magical adventures - her performance capturing the innocence and wonder of Barrie's original tale. Through Collins' voice you'll rediscover your favorite characters: Captain Hook, the Darlings, Tinker Bell, The Lost Boys, and a tick-tocking crocodile. And you'll fly along with Peter through Neverland - a place full of magic and adventure; a place where no one gets old.

A member of the landed gentry, with a seemingly guaranteed income from his estate in the country, Oblomov lives in Petersburg, uninterested in the business that provides his living and barely aware that the revenue is diminishing. Not that he leads a dissolute life of extravagance, balls and entertainment. Instead he is a dreamer, a sybarite, content above all to spend most of the day supine, in bed. The novel opens with Oblomov thus ensconced, attended only by his dirty, grumbling, indolent servant Zahar, who has looked after him since childhood, catering to his every need.

I enjoyed this little book. I find it interesting on what the cartoons choose to leave out. The creativity within this book was wonderful. How farias are born, how the dreams intertwine, etc. I enjoyed this one. If you’re looking for a classic, this one is short and sweet.

A Classic For All Ages
This book is amazing! I had read some time ago in third grade but I don't remember the magic of it. The stubbornness of tinker bell and the carefreeness of Peter. I also liked that Peter says all the things about girls being smarter than boys. Nana was a really good character in my opinion. She made me laugh till I was black and blue. A great book I will read again.

I think I get its appeal but wow it seems backward
Even considering its time period, I just get a sense of it being backward in the book's thinking or morals. The movie about J.M Barrie's life makes it seem as though he wrote it to please and help some local children as much as mess with society of the day, which implies to me that it would have portrayed some things differently from society. With the exception of how openly loving Mr. & Mrs. Darling are toward their children and how accepting they are of all the Lost Boys coming to live with them, the book largely embraces the prejudices of the day. Then comes along the whole statement that children must be heartless to be able to believe in Neverland while insisting that they must also be pure and have an undying love or loyalty to Peter Pan. I admit that it may just be that I don't fully understand the meaning put to that word at the time this was written or that mearly it means as I originally thought that they must let go of their attachments to the real world, but that phrase just really bothers me. Children aren't naturally that way. Even Peter Pan occasionally showed his true caring nature from time to time. Could it be that since Peter Pan tried so hard to not show that side that he was declaring that's what it took to go there? Any which way I look at it, the phrase disturbs me and will forever ban this book from being thought of as a classic in my mind and heart. Lily Collins does a wonderful job narrating however.
