Publisher's Summary

A funky collection of instant messages, emails, essays, and more takes this hilarious and complex young adult novel to a completely different place than the usual romance-coming out-theater-baseball novel.

Classmates T.C., Augie, and Alejandra each have different passions: the Red Sox, musical theater, and acting. They uproariously combine in friendship, love, and a quest to make a special addition to Manzanar, the famed Japanese internment site. Throw in a little Mary Poppins, and things really turn upside-down!

Narrators include Eileen Stevens, Ben Rameaka, Jeremy Beck, Peter Ganim, Christian Rummel, Kevin Pariseau, Khristine Hvam, Gayle Hendrix, Allyson Johnson, Marc Vietor, and Jay Snyder.

Encore! Encore!

I could not have asked for a more exciting time listening to an audiobook. A story written from multiple characters points of view in multiple formats - email, instant messaging, playbills, journals, even sign language. Who knew that the narrators could pull off such an amazing feat, and yet they do. Bravo and brava. It definitely helps that Kluger has written a story that wins over the high school student reader as well as the high school English teacher-reader as well as the YAL junkies (re: me) alike. I want more of the same style because it was a fun ride with characters I could connect to and stories that brought back fun memories of high school. THANKS!

Incredibly uplifting story

This was such a great read. Expect for the two miss pronunciations of Faneuil Hall and Peabody (from the Boston area) . Excellent voices.

Bummed

What would have made My Most Excellent Year better?

If there weren't so many different formats such as emails, phone messages, and online messaging.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I think the story simple wasn't meant to be an audiobook. The story itself is good but it became muddled and confusing with so many types of communication. If it had just been the three different characters narrating the story and communicating with one another it would have been MUCH better.

What character would you cut from My Most Excellent Year?

I wouldn't cut any of the characters. I didn't, however, like T.C.'s narrator. His voice/accent was grinding.
