Ocky the chimp, escaped from the circus, offers Harry a chance for a new life. With his friend, Harry runs away from all the people who seem so hard on him. Wonderful! Morpurgo at his very very best.

We listened to this on a long car journey and were totally gripped from start to finish. It is a truly engaging story wonderfully read by Gareth Cassidy. There is not quite as much death and misery as in some Morpurgos which my children really appreciated, and the story races along with empathetic characters, unlikely twists, though provoking themes with fun and delight provided by a monkey. In true Morpurgo style nothing is spelled out for you so my children who range from 7 to 12 were stretched and intrigued. We were sad when it was over. I really recommend this for all ages.
