Publisher's Summary

Visit the magical animal world of Brian Jacques in this thrilling prequel to Redwall. Long before the abbey of Redwall is built, the land is known simply as Mossflower, a lush woodland and happy home to all. That is, until Tsarmina, a cruel wildcat queen who demands obedience and offers the castle's dungeon to those who defy her, comes along. Brian Jacques' tales of courageous heroes and deliciously hateful villains have captivated countless readers.

Don't miss any of Brian Jacques' Redwall series.

    "Fantastic listening"

My children (ages 8 and 11) and I are veterans of children's audiobooks, and we have truly enjoyed the first three books of this series. It has the right mix of adventure, fun and swashbuckling to keep their interest high throughout. We will hold Mossflower near and dear to our hearts as the introduction to this wonderful world of stories.

    "A GREAT story."

I've read these books before, but listening to them is a whole new adventure! I love the voices, they really animate everything. I adore these stories and will continue to download them and enjoy every bit of listening to them.

    "Doesn't disappoint"

Mossflower, like the rest of the Redwall books, is a fun story to listen to. You might enjoy it as much as your children.

I'm game for Sci Fi, Fantasy, Fiction, History. I may even try this venue for learning languages. I have also come to love Great Courses.

"More books should be done with a cast!"
    Any additional comments?

This is the second book in the RedWall series. I enjoyed the first one so much that I purchased all that audible had. The cast and Author Brian Jacques work seamlessly and continue to provide a great performance. Great stories for children and adults alike.

"I found this difficult to listen to"
Would you try another book from Brian Jacques and/or Brian Jacques and Full Cast ?

Yes, but only because I already purchased

What aspect of Brian Jacques and Full Cast ’s performance would you have changed?

I listen to books while driving. With this book, I found myself constantly adjusting the volume...they would be speaking very quietly and the next minute YELLING to the point that I would be quite startled. I realize they are acting but the extreme volume fluctuations made this tedious to listen to.

    Any additional comments?

This was a nice book, but it would not make it to a 4 star (one of my favorites that I would enthusiastically recommend to everyone) of a 5 star (a classic, life changing book that that would make it to my Top 100 list). Although less dark, it reminded me of Lord of the Rings,

    "good book"

this was a good book. the actor's brought the characters to life. it followed the book of Martin the warrior, but it didn't quite follow the redwall book. there were discrepancies, but the story its self was enjoyable for both adults and children.

"Adventure, charm and wit, narrated beautifully"
    Any additional comments?

Mossflower is easily one of my very favorite books in the Redwall series, and hearing it narrated as an audiobook brought it to life in a truly charming fashion. Jacques has an amazing storytelling voice, and the cast did an excellent job with all the different accents. I didn't want to stop listening.

The book is filled with adventure, along with the warmth of true friendship and community, a cast of intricate characters, heroism against mad and bumbling foes, and clever wit. Oh, and gratuitous descriptions of food, of course!

Mossflower will be thoroughly enjoyed by listeners of any age.

    "An old friend"

I first read this book (and most of the rest of the series) when i was in middle school and the attitudes of its characters had a large hand in shaping my own attitudes and morals. listening to it now i find memories of my 12 year old self in the story. This is an excellent book and series for older elementary or middle school students. There is enough action to be entertaining, enough humor to be funny and enough Judaeo-Christian moral instruction to show a kid how to be a good person with out being too preachy or heavy handed.

The heavy handedness comes in with the voice acting. Brian Jacques makes a very good narrator but many of the actors are over the top in both personality and volume when voicing the characters. Many times i found myself adjusting the volume up to here the narration and then way down so the yelling characters didn't hurt my ears.

Bottom line, this is a great audio book for a elementary or middle school kid to listen to from speakers. Most adults will cringe at the hammy over acting and the volume jumps will make you flinch, especially if you are using headphones.
